I am an average internet user. Emails and occasional internet surfing. However I did get frustrated of the Dial Up Connection and decided to switch over to Broadband. I surveyed the present ISP's and their rates and was confused as there were mixed opinions. Since I had an MTNL landline I decided last month to take up the MTNL festival offer of DSL Broadband connection COMBO offer wherein you pay a combined rental of Rs.500.00 per month for the phone and the broadband. No installation charges. I am yet to get the first bill so my comments on the financial aspect will have to wait. However on the connectivity etc. I must say I was pleasantly surprised as I expected the worst from our good old friend MTNL. On the first few days we did have problems but that was expected. Once you learn the tricks of the trade its smooth sailing atleast for us for the last month and a half. Connectivity is good. No long disruption till now. A few tips for the new users/would be users. When not in use for longer periods switch of your ADSL Router. If the connection gets stalled or hung ( The status light on the router does not blink and is constantly on) switch off power to the router and again switch it on. If connection cannot be established despite all ADSL Router lights on and blinking as in the normal course disconnect all wires from the router end and connect again and you will be on the net in a jiffy. That's about all that you have to know to be able to take the best out of your MTNL Broadband connection. I am not a very heavy internet addict and for me as of now the MTNL option seems to be working better than expected. About the economics and long term durability I shall come back soon.
