MTDC's hotel in Mahabaleshwar is located away from the noisy market, in the forests abutting the Bombay Point.
Rooms can be booked online at their website.
Off season rates are extremely good value for money, check the site for latest tariffs. The rooms are spread out in the vast property, large and airy, well suited for families. The minus side is that they are somewhat tired . as are most govt owned properties. It is a good idea to tip the housekeeping man to re clean the room and bathroom after you check in.
There is one restaurant which offers Indian and Chinese. Whatever we sampled was fresh and delicious. Minus point: For early risers, do not expect to be served tea before 7am.
Monkeys abound in the many trees on the campus so be alert if you are munching on any food outside.
The Indian Giant Squirrel also resides here and is easily spotted on the MTDC's trees.
Bombay Point is walkable distance along a road through the forest. For nature lovers, there are several broad forest trails abutting this road such as the Tiger Path, and the Dan To Beersheeba Ride.
A short walk leads from within the MTDC property upto the erstwhile Governor's Hill and current PWD Rest House. The mountain view from here is stunning, especially early in the morning when clouds hover in the valleys below.
The main Mahabaleshwar market is also a mere 20 minute walk away.
All in all, the MTDC offers the best value for money in the off season. Be warned that rates double in season.
