Gaurav Gera ( Nandu of Jassi fame) dressed as a woman appearing on various shows coupled with the endless promos aired on Colors and other channels had got me excited. I was in front of the TV at 6.55 PM waiting for the first episode to start.
The story starts with our wannabe hero, Param, in a temple.Param represents the lacks of people who have the dream of making it big in Bollywood. He is begging God to give him that one chance, that ticket to Bollywood. There is the mother, surprise, who stitches clothes and the sister who is handicapped. Seeing his state in a laptop, from the heavens, God answers his prayers and the next thing we know is he is in Mumbai.
He has a friend Rahul Pyarelal who is equally broke. Rahul apparently has a business - Ghissu washing powder. And guess what happens to clothes washed in Ghissu? They shrink!
The two are out on the search for a house since Rahul has been thrown out of his current house. Circumstances lead our hero Param to cross dress and be Rahul's wife. They stay in Faujdaar villa as paying guests. But, hey even they both are completely broke, that doesn't stop them from flaunting their costly smart phones. (?)
The over all concept is very interesting. For the first time on Indian television ( as far as I know) we have a full fledged female character played by a male. We have Gaurav Gera, who looks fantastic as a woman. And the positives end here.
One of the biggest problem I have with the show is that there are too many characters. And all the characters seem to be completely mad. In the Faujdaar villa we have a dadi, a former jailor who beats the shi t out of anyone who lies to her. She has two sons ( that we know of). One is always on the phone with bluetooth. The other one is a doctor who has a strange illness. He suffers from an undisclosed disease where he forgets everything if doesn't take his tablets at particular times of the day. There is Ranjith, who is shown lusting for Pammi.
Then there are the wives of these two and their children. Each character has a few quirks. Like the daughter who speaks in shudh Urdu, her mother who speaks a lot, Mohini ( wife of the docotor) who is always seen with strange colored face packs.
Each person in the house behaves in a certain way which is supposedly funny and after one or two episodes they become predictable and boring frankly. The humor is every over the top and the situations are very impractical. The other major problem is the writing. The dialogues could have been much better. There is a story and a great concept but the way it has all been put together and executed is just disappointing.
If comedies are supposed to be illogical, over the top, and cringe worthy then this show is has got it all. Overall, Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal had the potential to be an intelligent, well written, funny show but lack of substance, over the top acting, illogical situations, and bad writing has made a bellow average fare.
