Two of the hottest Hollywood stars are pitted against each other, dressed up in deadly black and guns on the poster. What do you expect?
Let us leave alone the main knot of the story so that you can enjoy the movie a little more. A married couple, when they are thinking that they have problems of only one kind, get a shock all of a sudden. Their life changes upside down and we blast away to the end of the movie.
The proceedings begin very interestingly and sustain viewers' interest till the middle. But after that, you have an overdose of action (though not unnecessary in the story) plus typical Hollywood make-believe thrown in. The screenplay is slick and doesn't really lose the audience. It doesn't hit the brakes even when romance props up. The regular one-liners too are there. Also, The case of an aggressive wife is used very well.
Jolie steals the thunder from Pitt, though partially aided by the script. The latter is just fine, but nowhere near the coolness displayed in Fight Club or even Ocean's Eleven. Vaughn provides the calming effect amidst the madness.
Stunt sequences are thrilling, with special effects not standing out like a sore thumb. Surprisingly, the background score comes up with quite a few interesting sounds, instead of the cliched metallic noise. Cinematography and editing support very well.
The audience pretty much get what they thought they would. But with a little more effort from all fronts, this would have been a memorable outing.
Bottom-line: Chill out over the weekend.
