I found this website over the weekend and quickly searched around to add subjects that interested me for my profile page. This is to benefit myself as well, since I can go back to my page to refresh my memory as to what movie I wanted to write about. My preference is to watch the movie again before writing on it to jot down the characters names and scenes that inspired me to write about the flick in the first place.
When reading a book I write down various page numbers that I want to copy a phrase from onto the bookmark. When I have time I write out in detail the review prior to posting.
This is what I have done with other writing sites, just in case you look at my page and see I have yet to write on any books or movies. I am at the preparation stage for those listed that I like. What I have noticed since joining this site that I have yet to see at any of the other writing sites is a new form of shorthand. What I mean is that words are not being spelled out and using one letter to describe a word and some slang.
For example there are many that write (u) instead of you. There are other examples but I prefer not to have to endure reading these poorly presented opinions ridiculing the English language.
To me this is sloppy and pure laziness. One should put more effort into their writing on a website for this is our only image and first impression of you. I am not sure about you but I am turned off by this.
If I were an advertiser or business searching for valuable information and came across this type of writing I would not return and place less value on the organization running the site.
There are others that type in all CAPS which I understand means screaming in internet lingo. One other saying that no one uses in real life, is LOL. That was one of the first things I came across in an email when I first got my computer a year ago.
Just like when you go to a job interview, your attitude comes across in what you wear, here on the internet and at this site, your writings are your attitude, and for some it stinks!
I realize I did not touch upon the site, but basically wrote about the poor writing skills I have seen and it is sad that people are either uneducated in these areas or just plain lazy.
Number four of the tips here states to write well, check grammar and punctuation. If most of these were submitted to a high school teacher they would fail!
