Introduction to the Motorola V600

To start with, I`d like to say to all of you, that the Motorola V600 is the first 4-band phone from the company. It is equiped with an integrated digital camera, including Bluetooth Connectivity, what is a new breakthrough for a phone of this class. There is also a 65,000+ internal screen. There are other features which are similar to the phones of this generation. It supports MMS, polyphony, GPRS and Bluetooth.

The Motorola V600 is a fashionable phone. It`s rival models are assumably the Samsung SGH-V200, LG G8000. The Motorola V600 is a quadband phone (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 ), with internal screen (colour graphical TFT 65K display with the resolution of 176x220 pixels). The screen has up to 7 +line with icons and tips to the soft keys use. The external screen has a resolution of approx. 96x32 pixels. Battery type is Li-Ion 700 mAh. The phone`s weight is approx 94 g, with dimensions 87x47x23 mm It can store upto 1000 records in it`s memory phonebook. However, only one number can be added to one name. Email Address and photos can also be added to each entry.

The standby time of the phone is up to 210 hours and talktime is up to 530 minutes. The Motorola v600 is capable of MMS, SMS, EMS voice dialing, voice memo and has various programmed modes of vibrating alert and schemes. A good aspect of the phone is it`s interchangeable metal covers (two made of platinum). It has the possibility to play video clips with it`s 640x480 pixel Integrated digital VGA camera. It has 5 Mb of shared memory, which include different applications and data. It has 32 prinstalled ringing tones offers the possibility to compose up to 32 own melodies from .mp3-file and .wav which can be used as a ringing tone. That`s a great aspect of the Motorola v600. It also has 24 polyphonic tones.

The Motorola v600 also includes WAP 2.0 and other essential features like calendar,data, time, calculator and an organiser with an alarm-clock, up to 500 records or different types of reminders, games and email can be sent via POP3/IMAP. For data transfer the Motorala v600 has synchronization with PC via cable (RS232/USB) or Synchronization with PC (USB) So, as you can see, the phone is packed with many features which are stylish. (or fashionable).

My views with The Motorola V600

The looks are great. It`s sleek, well-built and very stylish. It looks even better with the platinum finish. It has a really great size, considering that it has so many features and it`s a flip-phone. The phone has a very good screen. Naturally, I have noticed the exterior screen a lower colour display than the interior screen. The screen has a nice size visually and shows a great deal of information too.

If the screen is normal, it shows the signal strength, time and battery (plus more), but if someone is calling, it displays and assigned picture (if any), the name and contact number of the person. This phone has the ability to phone internationally. I mean that I have tested it with my friend in the US from Mauritius, and it really works! No wonder it`s a Quadband phone.

As everyone knows, phones have been invented for communication of speech. -And for this, a good sound reception is extremely important, however hyper or pack-featured a mobile phone is. (atleast to ensure it`s survival in the market) When I tested the mobile, luckily the sound reception was clear in my handset and from the other too.

However, I`ve noticed that the best results with the Motorola V600 is when you tip it sideways and then you speak. The sound seems clearer and it`s just the handling of the phone which remains more of an important issue, as maybe some people will find it pretty uncomfortable to handle whilst speaking.

The Motorola V600 has a powerful and advanced predictive-text engine, by iTap which works well. The buttons are well-shaped and I have already got used to manipulating the buttons. The word completion seems the best innovative feature from iTap. You type only three or four letters of a word and it is simply guessed and dispayed automatically on the v600! WOW! That`s really cool! It speeds up typing by 3 times compared to my other Nokia 3410 phone.

The buttons on the flip phone are in a somewhat standard design format. They are large and if you refer to the liks below, you`ll notice that it covers the whole surface area of the lower face. The 4-way keypad is nice and upto the mark!

The games are really great, but the only problem is that they are demo and have to be registered for 5 US dollars. But I`ve had much fun playing them. The integrated camera of 640x480 pixels cannot capture videos with the camera. It includes a 4x digital zoom and can take very good pictures. A lot of pictures can be stored on a phone which has a total internal memory of about 5MB.

BLuetooth connectivity is great and really easy. With a few clicks, ringtones, images, videos, applications can be transferred from PC to handset. MP3 can be trimmed and transferred as ringtones for the Motorola V600. Nothing could get easier than this!

There are several applications which are included with the Motorola V600 and here`s a brief look at some of the major ones;

The calculator is near perfect apart from a feature which I would`ve appreciated very much. Apart from it`s four basic functions, the currency converter (the exhchange rates have to be inserted by user), percentages and simple memory functions.

However, the draw-back of this application is that if the application had been programmed to go online for exchange rates, then it would have left a better impression to me, but having said that I think that it would have cost quite a lot to go online again and again! The datebook is a standard calendar and quite handy for non-PDA owners. Alerts can be set up, future and past months can be viewed or reviewed, and so on....The Alarm clock can be modified with multiple alarms, different tones and volumes.

The Motorola V600 is a really great phone and I would recommend it to people who want a fashionable flip-phone and yet, need a fully-packed featured mobile. At Nokia, I haven`t come across any information about whether a phone as sophisticated and yet in a clam-shell-like phone exists like the Motorola V600. Maybe there is the 7200 from NOKIA, but I LOVE MY MOTOROLA v600!
