INTRO
It seems everyone wants a big phone even if lot of us act as if we don't, who doesn't want a bigger screen and a bigger battery, Samsung led the trend then the iphone jumped in and now its Googles turn.
BODY AND DISPLAY
This is a massive device and targeted towards a large consumer base, with 5.96 inches it really stands out, being almost the same size as a note 4 or iphone 6+ and having a bigger screen than them is great, thin bezels make it look sleek.
The thing about using a big phone is that at the start it feels weird but then it grows on you and then all other devices seem too small, you can't use it with 1 hand but because of it's curved back it sits in the hand very well, the metal rim gives it a premium feel and the power button placement is just right for such a big device.
Coming to the screen, its just plain beautiful, the quad hd display doesn't really overshadow a 1080p screen but hey i'm not complaining, even though a 1080p screen would have meant having more battery life but then I can live with that because of a massive 3220 mah battery.
With the latest snapdragon 805 processor, adreno 420 graphics processor and 3gb of ram this phone just flies
Dual front facing speakers are a welcome addition, I wonder why all companies don't implement it, the quality is really good and loud but not as good as HTCs boomsound dual speakers.
SOFTWARE AND UI
It's shipped with the latest android lollipop 5.0 os and google this time has really taken it to the next level, it just looks pretty and very modern, with those wonderful animations and colors it's just a joy to use this phone. It is the real star here with the material design. With bright colors, animations and depth it really feels like as if the phone is showing you what it is doing, you need to use it understand this bit.
I couldn't see any lag whatsover and really enjoyed the experience.
There is a lot to cover about lollipop and i'll do that in a separate review to give it justice.
Because of the amoled display motorola has made good use of it by giving us lockscreen notifications which shows enough required information and lights up only few pixels there by not straining the battery like on a LCD display.
CAMERA
There is a 13mp camera with a dual led flash in a ring formation and this is the best camera I have used on a nexus device, the shutter speed is fast enough for me and basically in lot of cases it is instantaneous but still there is a lag in low light conditions, but thanks to OIS it manages to get good shots but still not as good enough as iphone6 or even note 4. But every now and then you do get a perfect shot.
BATTERY LIFE
You expect great battery life with these huge phones and the nexus 6 doesn't disappoint, I got a day and half with moderate usage and that is more than acceptable, with lighter usage 2 days battery life is very much possible.
If you are a heavy user then don't worry, motorola has you back, it has a fast charging capability and the lollipop is also has a battery saving mode when you need the phone to last few extra hours.
CONCLUSIONS
It's a very solid device, an aggressive price for the specs being offered . 44, 000 for 32gb and 49000 for 64gb . would I buy it over a note 4 or iphone 6+? MAYBE YES
With faster updates than other oems it becomes a much better package.
The size can be an issue and you may need deeper pockets to own this device(pun intended)
But once you use it for a while there is no going back, each year I feel this is the limit to a screen size of a phone and anything bigger than this will be a tablet but i've been proved wrong, but this time around I'm absolutely sure this is the limit in size in terms of phone dimensions, anything bigger is a tablet.
