I bought a Moto G5 Plus in July through Flipkart, and has taken minor servicing already.
Initially, I faced call drops in the G5 Plus and by the time I brought my phone to the franchise service center in Thrissur - the problem has escalated. There was an issue with the mic - I could hear loud and clear but not the receiver.
The service people told me an OS re-installation would solve call drops but to my shock the phone was dead after a perfunctory service. So, call drops turned into G5 Plus not charging, not receiving SIM cards, after the perfunctory service round one.
I went to the service center in Aluva for round two of service and they told me probably G5 Plus has a problem with the USB socket. To change USB socket, one would have to change the motherboard of phones having non-removable battery. I asked for a replacement, they told me it is highly unlikely to get one post the 10 replacement period of Flipkart.
Thought of going to the consumer court afterwards. Instead went to the authorized service center of Motorola, not Lenovo, in Kaloor to get contacts for suing but somehow to my luck the problem got fixed. Or, at least, that is the seemingly present situation.
After cleaning the inner part of the phone, and installing Nougat again, the G5 Plus worked fine. Mine did. Regarding service in the authorized service center of Motorola, not Lenovo, it was ok. Had they notified me the screen guard of my Moto G5 Plus been removed while burning the sides, I would have told the authorized service is better. I had to ask for a replacement of screen guard again, which they did, since Motorola does not provide screen guard right up.
Such a good brand has been ruined by Lenovo I would say.
For those of you still reading, the performance of the G5 Plus is sok. The touch works smooth, the fingerprint sensor is responsive and quick. Methinks, Marshmallow is a tad better than Nougat. In the G5 Plus, a Nougat exclusive, the video player need improvements. Sometimes when you open some videos from the File Manager, the playback of other video starts and you would have to scroll through from left to right, the entire list, to find the video which you intend to open. May be installing MX Player would solve that issue but, hey, that is also a may be.
Music player is good, the bundled earphone awful, in the Moto G5 Plus. Call quality, after service, is serviceable at best. I did some conference calls and the Moto G5 Plus has not performed as well as Honor 6, my previous, has done.
What else? Gaming? Me no do that.
Camera? Good. Both Front cam(5 MP) and rear cam(12 MP with dual LED flash and autofocus).
Browsing is choppy. The build quality seems good. The battery back up is excellent. However, I don't feel like recommending the Moto G5 Plus as yet - may be Flipkart sold me a poor piece. Or, May be an update to the stock Android Nougat 7.0 would improve the call quality. But, that also seems like a "may be" as of now.
One Suggestion to Lenovo - Place more authorized service centers in main cities, the franchized ones are awful. Plus, you cannot service a Moto phone in a Lenovo authorized service center. If a Lenovo service center accepts your Moto, please note that is a franchized service center not an authorized one.
Suggestion to you - There are alternatives like J7 Prime, Honor 8 Lite, iPhone 5S.
Question for you - Why does Flipkart has a buyback guarantee for the G5 Plus?
P. S. Moto Mods for the Moto G5 Plus seems an unwanted investment as well. Hello Moto.
