Previous month I decided to purchase a new cellphone. I had shortlisted Sony Ericsson K700i, SE W810i and Motorola A1200 (Motoming).
I got the first impression of Motoming from its website which has a live animation showing Motoming in action. I was most impressed by its combination of cellphone and PDA like features.
Its a touch-screen mobile with Voice Recognition, Optial Character Recognition(OCR) documnet viewer, FM Radio, Real Player (Real Player is good for storage for videos as .rm format takes pretty less space), Bluetooh and Business Card Reader. I am writing briefly about each of its features mentioned.
Touch-screen Mobile: As Motoming is a touch-screen mobile, each time u want to do something using your mobile you have to use the stylus for tapping on-screen. This feature increases the style appeal of motoming enourmously. But I have seen people who don't like to use stylus for everything. Fortunately this phone comes with Voice Recognition features which helps you control the phone without stylus.
Voice Recognition: Motoming supports Voice Dialing and Voice Commands for opening various applications, writing messages etc. These features somewhat eliminate the need to use the stylus everytime you operate on the phone.
Optical Character Recognition: While composing messages, the OCR feature of phone can be used.Write a character on write-pad and your phone will recognise the character. This feature may not be that useful in composing messages but it plays a crucial role in Business card reader which I will mention later.
Document Viewer The phone has a document viewer which supports .doc, .ppt, .pdf .
Business Card ReaderThe BCR helps capture information from a business card by its Camera(Macro Mode) and store it as contact. When I used it for the first time, I didn't have much hope about it. But the BCR works really well for simple business cards.
Other Features It has a 2 MP camera with 8X digital zoom. The photos are pretty decent. The 176x220 pixel screen provides a much better diplay for videos. It also has FM Radio(in MONO and Stereo Modes).It has bluetooth, GPRS but no EDGE technology.
PROS
Motoming is a stunning cellphone with many gr8 features in it. Its a good cellphone having many PDA like features in a decent 17,000 price tag. I was most impressed by its BCR feature.
But I found some CONS about this product which can be improved.
Maximum volume in motoming is very less compared to its SE counterparts.
Images taken by its 2MP camera inferior than its SE conterparts.
The voice quality degrades when loudspeaker is turned on.
4.The Voice Recognition sometimes interprets wrongly.
It doesn't have EDGE functionality.
If you drop the phone, it may be severely damaged.
After writing so man features finally its the time for the most crucial question
"Will I recommend the phone to you ".
YES if you want a stylish phone with many features packed in a cell and are ready to take full care of it(Don't drop it even accidentally).
If you want a cellphone with gr8 music quality but not PDA, OCR, VR like featues check SE W series instead.
