I had one of the worst experiences with the hospital. I shifted to this HRBR hospital from Indiranagar just for Dr. Madhavi Reddy who is an excellent gynecologist.
The reason to write this review is the nightmare we had to go through post-delivery. The same evening, my daughter was shifted to NICU for not feeding well and throwing up following the feed. The doctors suggested that they needed to investigate this further after giving us possible reasons why she was throwing up. As new parents, we were completely freaked out. Our knowledge regarding this issue was limited to books and google. The doctor asked us if my baby was covered with insurance and was then shifted to the NICU. Then our ordeal began. She was put on medication, yet she was still throwing up and not taking in the feed so well. Our stay at the hospital was extended to the point where we gave up and decided to switch to a different hospital. They advised us against it and as a last resort, they asked us to undergo a dye test. We had to take her to a different hospital in an ambulance for the dye test. At last, she was diagnosed with reflux. We were advised to give less but frequent feeds and medication to help her with vomiting. They still wanted us to stay in the hospital until she starts feeding but we refused and got discharged the next evening. After we came home, her condition improved drastically. She was feeding well and her food intake improved drastically. We were very pleased. We consulted an independent pediatrician post-discharge and he went through her reports. He was shocked to see a newborn go through all of this for such a small issue. Apparently few newborns have a problem with feeding due to ingestion of meconium in the womb and the problem resolves after 48-72 hours after the intake of stomach cleaning meds. It is a common occurrence.
My real issue with the whole experience is that as doctors, they would have definitely seen or at least heard about cases like these. They could have used their experience and told us the same rather than making my baby suffer in the NICU for 5 days with multiple needles and multiple scans which by itself is harmful to the baby. I can't even begin to fathom how much pain my baby had to go through during those 5 days in NICU.
Moving to the next part- Service. To begin with, advance room booking was torture. They made numerous phone calls on a daily basis even during odd times for advance payment for the room. Even after booking the room in block A in advance, we were allocated a room in B Block while the rooms were still available in A Block. Dr. Madhavi Reddy had to intervene to move me to A Block while I was in active labor. We had to switch rooms again as the geyser in our room did not work. No helpers came to help me with the bath. I took a lukewarm water bath on my own, post-delivery. I had to return my hospital gown multiple times as it was torn. I am not even exaggerating. Food from the canteen was average and we did not have many options to choose by. Overall, I was charged for an A classroom but they provided service like a government hospital.
Duty docs in the NICU facility are the worst. They are very rude, lack professionalism, and have no information about the babies under their care. They do not care to answer patient's queries and are busy on personal phone calls. They charge you 25k per day in NICU but cannot afford to clean babies with wet wipes or soft tissues. They use rough hand tissues on newborns. Overall a very unpleasant experience of hospital hospitality.
The only positive I can write about is Dr. Madhavi Reddy, delivery duty doctor, and the nurses assigned to our room who were really good and caring.
