Story:

“Molly felt as if she was sailing in uncharted waters. She didn’t know whether stopping the world was a good thing or a bad thing.”

Molly Moon stops the World was my birthday present. Although I got many books, this one was my first choice. Why? Well, firstly because of its catchy title and interesting book cover, secondly, I had never heard the name of the book or the author so I thought I would give it a try. After reading the synopsis, I could not leave it unattended till I reached the end.

Story: This is a story of a young girl, Molly Moon who was found at the door of an orphanage ‘Hardwick House’ (much like its name) in a box of Moon’s Marshmallows. One day at a library the librarian Lucy Logan hypnotized her to make her buy a book called the Book of Hypnotism by Dr. Logan. Through that book she learnt how to hypnotize people and make them do things she wanted them to do. She goes to Hollywood and makes a fortune by hypnotizing people. She comes back to her hometown “Briersville” and gives the old, creaky orphanage a facelift and renames it “Happiness House”. But the mystery develops when she could not find Lucy. Later, she meets Lucy and sees her with some permanent burns and fractures. The mystery further deepens, when Lucy tells her that Primo Cell is a villain who is a master hypnotist who aspires to be President, and is accomplishing his motive by using his hypnotism on important personalities. Molly goes to The Oscars and meets Primo Cell, who invites her to a party at his home. There she discovers herself in a Magpie Death Chamber. Will, she be ever able to escape the huge metal Magpie, whose beak is as strong as a Shlick-Shlack (one of Primo Cell’s Knife Company). Even stopping time can’t help her this time. She discovers some astonishing secrets that will change her life forever.

The Main Characters are very interesting and meaningful, they are sketched very closely and minutely, and they resemble human thoughts at any particular situation. They are :

  1. Molly Moon : A young orphan, who is smart and intelligent. She knows the difference between good and evil and uses her powers for the benefit of mankind.

2. Rocky : Molly’s best friend. He is the smart thinker, who usually comes up with the workable ideas.

3. Primo Cell : Master Hypnotist, Multi Billionaire. He describes himself in his own words “People think that I am a benefactor but actually I am a cruel vicious Murderer”.

  1. Sinclair : Primo Cell’s adopted son. He hates his father and helps Molly to foil his plans for World domination.

5. Davina Nuttel : A child superstar, who was kidnapped by Primo Cell for knowing his secrets.

  1. Lucy Logan : The helpful Librarian who molded Molly to learn Hypnotism as she believed that she could help Mankind.

7. Petula : Molly’s pet pug, a very well behaved dog, who is used to a glamorous lifestyle.

Molly Moon is a series by Georgia Byng. It sequels Molly Moon’s incredible book of hypnotism, Molly Moon’s hypnotic time travel, Molly Moon Mickey Minus and Mind Machine and Molly Moon and the Morphing Mystery continue Molly adventures. Each book is connected to another but complete adventure in itself as it gives the necessary details of the previous stories, which help us understand and connect better. Each chapter ends in a suspense, which makes us curious to read the next. This way we can’t get our eyes off the book.

I found this book extremely interesting and full of thrill, adventure and suspense. This book is not what it seems. From the outside it appears like a flat adventure with a single goal. But as we read, we unfold secrets that are completely unexpected.

The language is very understandable for kids of my age group. We don’t have go through it over and again to understand it. This makes it easy to visualize the story. The font size is very comfortable. It has 354 pages and 44 chapters. There are no pictures and it uses a lot of phrases, which makes it even more interesting. The phrases harbor a lot of resemblance with scenario and amuse and excite our imagination.

The cover shows a picture of Molly’s Pug Petula with a blue fur. She is wearing a sparkling diamond collar and star shaped sun glasses. It has green and yellow spirals all around it. It perfectly describes what you might expect inside.

My recommendation to all the fiction readers, as this book really hypnotizes you till the end. Although, I can give you a spoiler alert, that it leaves you with a suspense, and makes you bit miserable, as you keep thinking about what next. It makes you long for the next. Although it is a compliment for the author’s creativity and hard work but a bit of torture for a reader like me.

Happy Reading

MJ
