It has been raining 5 inch devices, and when it comes to the Indian market Micromax cannot be far behind. The Canvas 2 has been leading the sales and the popularity charts alike which even gsmarena claims this. Riding high on the success of the Canvas 2 Micromax has decided to launch its successor, the Micromax A116 Canvas HD, which promises to be another run a way hit. I have reviewed the specifications of this device for you’ll.
Off topic – The Samsung Galaxy Grand was just released in India for Rs 21500, here is the full review : https://bit.ly/Samsung-Galaxy-Grand
Dimensions – The mobile is of the same build as that of the Micromax A110 canvas 2, actually it is identical to that device and has the same plastic body. It has a thickness of around 10.7 mm which may be on the thicker side of phones nowadays. The phone feels quite good in the hand but one hand operations might still be a problem.
Display – This is the USP of this device. It has a a 5 inch IPS full HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which gives it a pixel density of 296 ppi, that is wonderfull display clarity for a budget phone. With this screen at a sub 15 k price, this device is a steal.
Memory – The phone has an inbuilt memory of 4 GB and is expandable upto 32 GB using a micro SD card. It also has 1 GB RAM, which makes it the only budget device (under 15k) to have it and makes it another reason for the buyers to favor this device.
Processor – It sports a 1.2 Ghz Quad core Mediatek processor with a 5XT powerVR series GPU , couple this with 1 GB of RAM you have a powerhouse. The device though uses the OpenGL graphics engine whose credibility I can’t comment on.
Camera – The device has an 8 MP rear facing camera and a 0.3 MP front facing camera. The rear camera can shoot 1080 p videos which is again a great improvement, because there were a lot of complaints regarding the camera and the company claims to have worked on it for improvements.
Battery – The device has a 2100 mah Li-Ion battery good enough to last an entire day. I did expect at least a 3000 mah battery with this device because playing HD videos will discharge the battery faster than usual. So the Battery might be a disappointment.
Connectivity options –The device has all the standard mobile connectivity options like Wifi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and comes with dual sim tray which was expected. It runs on the android Jellybean 4.1.2 and an update to 4.2 is expected, and it runs the stock version without any enhancements except for some pre configured apps.
Price and availability – The company has priced it at Rs 14199 and it would be available from February 1st onwards, but you might get it at 13k -14k range at various online shopping websites.
It’s a Value for money device and is sure to succeed given that Micromax has achieved a great following after the Canvas 2 . Overall it’s a brilliant device and is definitely worth buying if you have a tight budget.
Thanks and Regards,
