To be frank, I had never been particular about brands as far as soaps and shampoos were concerned. Cleanliness was all I looked for and never expected more than that…until I came across this wonderful Ayurvedic soap -MediMix.
A part of Cholayil Pharmaceuticals (a Chennai-based ayurvedic products company), Medimix is running its 30th year of marketing in India. MediMix alone brings in a share of over 7% in the South Indian market to the company. In their words; Medimix is a well-established Ayurvedic soap known for its curative, preventive and beautifying qualities for skin, scalp and hair. The product contains 18 powerful herbs to protect the skin. The natural oil base of the product contains 60% coconut oil, one of the costliest and best vegetable oils available in India, which nourishes the skin and gives natural thick foam.
The 18 herbs and their benefits
1) Andropogan Muricatus (Khus): This herb is a cooling agent …widely used in treating many skin disorders in Aromatherapy.
2) Hemidesmus Indicus (Anantamul): Used in curing skin diseases. Also, used as a mouth freshener (the leaves).
3) Coriandrum Sativam (Dhania): Coriander, a fragrant spice …valued for its medicinal properties and also finds application in perfumes.
4) Plumbago Rosea (Chitram): Prevents unwanted outbursts on the skin (pimples, acne etc.)
5) Berberis Aristata (Darlahad): Used in the treatment of boils and dermatotis (occupational skin disease).
6) Balsamodendron Mukul ( Guggula): A natural astringent….heals skin and other diseases.
7) Cedrus Deodara (Deodar): Antiseptic properties.
8) Melia Azadirachta (Neem): Can be used as ointment to destroy lices. Also used for other skin and scalp diseases.
9) Acorus Calamus (Racha): Used for a number of medicinal reasons including skin care, oral hygiene etc. Prevents dandruff.
10) Psoralea Corylifolia (Bakuchi): The seeds of this herb have anti-fungal and anti-protozoal activity. Used to cure skin diseases like leucoderma and psoriasis.
11) Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Yashtinmadhu): Known to be a good anti-oxidant. Helps to prevent dandruff.
The other 7 herbs i.e. Holarrhena Antidysentrica( Kutza), Cuminum Cyminum (Jirka), Embelia Ribes (Vidin), Celastrus Paniculatus (Jyotishmati), Zingiber Zerumbet (Vanadraka), Nigella Sativa (Krishna jirka) and Smilax China (Chopchini) ….are used to deodorize and beautify the skin.
What do I use it for?
For the great after-bath feeling. This is something I really cannot put in words…but I'm sure you do understand.
The pleasant aroma.
The feeling of freshness that lasts longer than any other soap I had ever used
Also, it is an effective deodorant, which means it kills the bacteria that cause body odour due to perspiration.
The 75 gms soap priced at Rs.10/- and 125 gms at Rs.16/- -pretty affordable considering the fact that it lasts long too.
It suits my skinperfectly. MediMix is suitable for all skin-types. The herbs keep a check for those having oily skin …while the coconut oil gives enough moisture for those with dry skin.
Though MediMix also claims that it can cure dandruff …I do not wish to vouch for the same, as I never tried it for my hair.
Recently, MediMix has come up with a ''Buy three, get one free'' offer. I won't be missing out. Will you?
