Kate’s only aim to stay at the top of the entrepreneurial level, to run the company and keep it ahead of other competitors, come hail or high water. Among all these characters she stands tall and steady always thinking of how to improve her empire. This makes her distinct from any other Sheldon’s characters. As said earlier, she shines so much throughout the novel, that the other characters fades away. Sheldon depicts Kate as a strikingly beautiful and voluptuous woman who has surpasses her male counterparts to the hilt, charms them and wraps them around her manicured fingers.
The thrilling book begins with her ninetieth birthday and ends with it as well. Then it revolves around her father Jimmy, her own life story, then her son’s obsession for painting and how Kate crushes it and lastly her two grand daughters. Traveling from the diamond shores of Africa to the hep American social circle, the novel is not only a fast read but would compel the reader to keep on reading till one has reached the last page. Life of Kate Blackwell was definitely portrayed as a roller-coaster ride. She is depicted as a strong, virile, intelligent and powerful woman who sets out to conquer the world and comes out to be the true Master in the game of life. Sheldon undoubtedly brings out an unputdownable book that would make the reader’s heart beat faster with the turn of each pages.
