In South Indian Movies, Post Basha- there is an unwritten rule by which an action movie is the one where initially the Hero appears to be a mute spectator to the happenings around him and he is also a staunch follower of Ahimsa to the fullest extent that he doesn’t even mind he getting injured / thrashed black and blue in the due process but once when Female folks / elders are harmed he comes out from his shell and transforms himself into an one man-machine who demolishes loads and loads of villains and hooligans single handedly by performing Death/ Gravity defying stunts and more than that the Hero will have a greater than life Flashback and post that will be the climax where things sort out.

And yeah this movie also falls in this genre but it is the movie’s screenplay that makes it gripping , watch able as well as enjoyable.

As always I’ll stick to my rule of not telling the story, though I’d already given a hint about the movie in the prelude.

The plot is simple , A stranger who calls himself Ganesh lands at Vizag and appears to be a soft humanitarian but subsequent incidents at his apartment turns him in to one man machine and from there the story moves on.

Now on to Credits Department,

Nagarjuna is at his best in this movie. He looks extraordinarily handsome as ‘Mass’. He looks refreshingly young when compared to heroes in his age brigade. Its time that other heroes seek his advice on this regards– hehehehe.

He is simply superb in dances and fights and he breathes fire in this role thereby clearly displaying the spirit of the movie – Dammunte Kasko (Dare If You Can?)

Jyothika impresses the viewers in Second half – no wonder the Hero falls head over heels love with her. But one needs to admit that its time for Jo to take care in choosing her roles , now a days she is typecast as a chocolate Heroine only which doesn’t augurs well for this talented actress.

Charmi plays the second fiddle. Her role is limited to exposing skin and seducing the hero and then post knowing the past behind Hero , turns into a new leaf -praying for the welfare of Hero and Heroine. she does that to perfection. Director makes her ape Shruthika’s mannerisms in Tamil hit “Naladamayanthi”

Raghuvaran impresses us with his Dialogue delivery and modulation with his short footage in the movie. Raghuvaran, at his menacing Best !

Rahul Dev hams throughout the movie though his mere presence in screen results bringing in the desired spine chilling effect.

Sunil appears as a Jigli dhost of Nag and has made full use of the meaty role provided to him.

Watch out for the scenes, when he and Nag befool his father and his take on Junior NTR.

Venu Madhav comes in a separate comedy track. His cancer patient comedy track with Narsing Yadav is sure to evoke laughter from the audience.

Rajesh as an auto driver, who later becomes Nag’s follower has done his job neat .

PrakashRaj in his cameo as Lawyer Durga Prasad mesmerizes and so is Raghavendra Lawrence , the director himself who appears in the song sequence – Mass.

All the others have performed well in their specified roles.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is strictly O.k and somehow also reminds us about Shankar Dada M.B.B.S but at the same time one needs to admit the Songs are feet tapping and forgettable.

Cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is good.

Stunts by Vijayan is excellent.

The chase scene involving Nag and Rahul Dev & co is superb, though it is a rip from Paycheck and MI-2. Again, the fight with Stunt Master Dinesh and co is yet another rip from recent Tamil block buster ‘SAAMY’.

Dialogues by Paruchuri brothers are apt for a mass movie.

Story, Screenplay and Direction by Lawrence Raghavendra is crisp- there by sticking on to the formulae of Basha Genre- action hero. He has succeeded in sustaining the curiosity and tension amongst the audience. The director also succeeds in touching the hearts of the audience in one particular scene – When Nag visits the orphanage along with Jyothika.

In a word, ‘Mass’ sticks to its tag line – Dammunte Kasuko !

Verdict : A Decent Entertainer
