Marvin's room should be reviewed only for great performance by the actors in the movie. Meryl Streep (is there anything this woman can't portray on screen), Diane Keaton, Leonardo DiCaprio (too young here though) and Hume Cronyn. They, together, give you a gem of a movie with their touching portrayal of a family which had fallen apart and not attempts are being made to unite the family as one of the sisters (Streep & Keaton play sisters) is suffering from leukemia and the father (played by Hume Cronyn) is already bed-ridden.
This movie initially looks a story of a sister who is trying to unite the family so she can get the bone marrow from the other sister, however, that is eventually not happening. They unite, they fight and come to terms that they have to find a way out to bury their differences and live together under one roof.
Acting wise, Streep outshines everybody else in the movie followed by Keaton. What this movie for the rivalry that siblings share and eventually coming together to form a family that they both desired but never got.
Different shades of the characters leave no room for the gloom that the movie starts with.
See this one with your family and see what you must have lost in the fights that were nothing more than the squabbles that every family goes through but sometimes leaves a dent that takes ages to wipe out.
