Everyone knows the features of this machine. I will try to add stuff which people usually wouldnt get to read. This is an update post 16000 kms. That's decent run time and the engine has also settled though I expect a little more after 20000 kms in terms of economy.
How is it to drive in city: In cities, Parking is ok if you are a bit careful. It is 4.3 meters in length, slightly more than a sub 4 meter compact hatch or sedan. However , have to b careful while turning around pillars or walls. It's bumpers are wider than conventional small cars we are usually used to. Also, driving with the first 2 gears is easy but due to the torque assist from the shvs system, you sometimes get a bit more of a push than you generally expect from a diesel engine, gotta be careful with cars in front while taking off from behind them. Turbo lag is felt in second gear but you get used to moving quickly to the next gear once u drive around a lot. Mileage in city is 15.5 kmpl if you drive aggressively between 2nd -4th gear with AC on and 17.5 - 18.7 kmpl with smooth driving. If you crawl on 1st gear with AC on, it gives 10.9 kmpl. The Shvs system which saves fuel by turning off the engine and quickly turning it on when reqd is anyways helping you. For a car of this class, that's decent.
How is it on the highway: People who looked at the paper and say its a 1.3L oil mill and will run out of gas on the highway were just baseless. It's got torque assist and a vario geometric turbocharger. Agree its slower taking off but once you begin cruising, it can zip through highways super quickly with great economy. I could just whiz through in most situations and I guess you just have to be In the right gear swiftly. It depends on driving as well. Its effortless to drive in highways though being larger due to a light clutch, butter smooth gears and amazing power steering gr8 handling. The cruise control is a lovely feature on open roads to hum along at 100 or 120 or 80 kmpl. It maintains the speed at that once set be it a slope or incline until you use the brakes. At half loads or full loads, my beauty gives me 20.8 kmpl with or without AC on. Sometimes, on a long stretch of good roads, you can get even 22-23 kmpl maintaining the same speed consistently. The ride quality with 33 psi in tyres and half loads is bumpy at lower speeds. At higher speeds greater than 80 kmpl, it beautifully absorbs bumps and potholes offering a flat ride. The wider and larger JK royale tyres are a grest asset to the car. I use nitrogen in my tyres btw which gives great thrust and propulsion to the car in 5th gear while gliding ( not pushing the accelerator while descending a slope for example) . Whats impressive is that at higher speeds, it feels solid and planted on the road not shaking around like its lighter bros and sis. The Scross weighs 1215 kgs unladen and thats the heaviest Suzuki around. So, you dont have to feel jittery that you are in a tin can while its performing.
All mileage is derived using the tank full method rather than relying on the dash mileage reading alone. So, its quite reliable but do note that these figures are for my driving style which is moderately aggressive or smooth depending on mood or intimidation from fellow drivers.
More comments after I complete 20000 kms and do a post service drive.
