After a lot of research, we decided to purchase a zxi model primarily to be used & driven by my 56 yrs old father inlaw. The decesion was taken by me & my father in law much to the annoyance of my 29 yrs old brother in law who was dead against purchase of a hatch back & was hell bent for a saloon just because for better status symbol. Most of his friends have saloons that has also made him inclined to go for nothing less. Father in law was rightly reluctant as he was not confident of driving a saloon properly. As the decision was thrust upon, my b-i-l did not bother even to go to the show room to bring home the car & did not even glance at it for the first week. Then one day happened to drive the new car & since then no looking back. In short he now loves the car & forgotten the saloon-dream.
Practically speaking this car is a saloon sans the boot. The car has completed 1st service. Me & family took it on a week long trip to Puri covering 1000 km approx. I own a Wagor-R, my third car at the moment & a car-maniac since 12 yrs. Would like to share my experince for benefit of the MS members.
-ves:
-Look perception is personal. I do'nt like the rear look .
-Rear parcel tray is too narrow. For music lovers, woofer probably can n't be fitted on the tray.
-Rear sitting is just comfortable, not as good as Indica-Vista.
- I am 5'8" tall, Wt-70 kg. The car has seat height & srteering adjustment. Still I could not find a position, where my knees do n't brush the car's interior. The left knee to the gear console, the right to the protuding power- window-control-console. The knee movement gets limited & I always wished to keep my knees further apart that the car's interiors permit. Trust I could make the point clear. This becomes quite an irrant on long drives. No other MS member has felt this that sounds strange to me.
FE with 100% AC, 25 % city drive, 75% highway- at 120/130 kmph when the road permits was just 13.3 , full tank to full tank method. Expecting atleast 15 kmpl. I think speed was the culprit.
Slow pick up in 3rd gear that expected, if rpm is low.
-Luggage space
-Very smooth & rev happy engine.
-Front seats very supportive
-Company fitted integrated music system sounds good & would satisfy most, though discerning listeners could ask for more crispness & bass.
-Feature riched- Twin air bags, ABS, tilt steering, driver seat ht. adj, alloy wheels, wide tyres(195), stereo control on steering wheel etc. You can have the details on web site. In my opinion, for the price, the list of equipments are too good.
-Balanced suspension set up, not too firm, not too pliant either.
-Solidly built for a Maruti. Easily the best built hatch from Maruti.
-Looks modern from inside & from from front
-Vey good control over the car at high speeds contrary to my expectation in spite of being quite tall.
-Airy interior.
- Wt. of the car & wide tyres does offer a planted feel at any speed.
-Powerful head lights & AC
Any day modern diesels are better for highway cruising. With this car I could keep pace with a Swift-D & a Ford 1.4 D on high way with grace.
