Car Audio major Blaupunkt (originally a German firm earlier part of BOSCH group) has introduced Travel Pilot Lucca 3.5** through mapmyindia firm. I bought a piece at Hyderabad Auto Show in Hitex about 4 months ago.
It comes with pre-loaded maps of several cities and Hyderabad map in particular is fairly detailed and accurate. It is supposed to have map data of across 174 cities, connected by national highways, state highways and other major roads. The other features include point of interests across categories such as restaurants, ATMs and hotels amongst others.
It was common for me to loose track on Hyderabad roads which virtually lack any sign/direction boards for different locations; a big village that this city has been turning into in the last few years. Just yesterday I managed to reach Motinagar near Yerragadda without driving an extra mile or two using the navigation facility and surprised my relatives on timely arrival. The voice guidance is quite clear and intelligible.
You can store a large no of favorite locations and ONE HOME location. The HOME helps you get back home on a short route without asking some roadside hawker.
The Device has a rechargeable battery and can work on Cigarette lighter 12V socket source. It has an mp3 player and a photo viewer thrown in, though I never found any real use for them.
I am also not clear about the map-upgrades and I have faced a failure that was fortunately attended by their "sales person" for a price as they do not have wide spread mtce network.
I am not satisfied however with the screen intensity which is very LOW and cannot be adjusted by the user. It is surprising how companies miss out on such basics.
It cost me Rs. 8000/- and is worth every rupee spent on it.
