Manichitratazhu is an intriguing study on human emotions and the problems associated with it. Like a budding flower, the movie opens up slowly and before you know you are in the movie's pure but horrifying clutches. The movie revolves around a newly wed couple that move into a house thought to be ''haunted'' and that's when the problem starts. Sound familiar right, it's the basic plot of last year's Blockbuster Ram Gopal Verma creations ''Bhoot''. Although I saw rave reviews for Bhoot, if you see this malayalam movie, you will understand what was Bhoot missing.
The Story of Manichitratazhu shifts gears from Ghosts/Spirits to Psychosis/Neurosis in a way that would almost seem incredible. I dont want to give away too much but half way through the movie you will realize that you haven't paid attention at all and would like to do it all over again, a feeling I had after watching ''Sixth Sense''.
This movie is near perfect when it comes to basic Cinema Making, the performances by Shobhana, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi & Nedumudi Venu would keep you desiring for more. Beautifully written songs in both Malayalam and Tamil set to Unbelievable tunes adds another feather it it's already enriched cap.
Fazil who is one of the most successful Malayalam cinema maker was the Director of this movie but had to take help from 4 other famous directors like Priyadarshan, Sibi Malayil and few others for the climax scene to handle the complexity. Similar Approach was taken by Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the climax scene of 1942-A Love Story but he couldn't quite achieve that Fazil did.
There have been many classics from the Malayalam Movie World but this one deserves and commands a special attention, if you happen to get hold of it (With Sub-titles for Non Malayalees), this is a must watch.
Later folks.
