Ok.. for those of you who have no idea where mangalore really is, it is on the western side of Karnataka. It is a beautiful place, picturesque with its lovely surroundings and mystifying mosquitoes.
Now even though i'm a pure blood mangalorean, I live in bangalore where the air is clean, yet I miss this beautiful place which I still call My Home. This place is more of an old city than a developing one. It once used to a very famous harbour and most of the ships coming in from abroad used to dock here.
Most of the buildings in Mangalore are old type constructions with tiled roofs n old paints.. the roads are still pretty much in the developing stage.
Sights to see- Panambur beach. This wonderful place is about 10 - 15 km from the city on the way to Udipi. It makes a wonderful sight to c as the wave comes more than 15 feet high and takes you with it for a ride.Be prepared to be wet.
Kadri Hills. another lovely place. It is a big park with lots of flowers and rides and amusements for the children. Preferably should be visited during the day. During evening time, this place becomes host to the raging mosquitoes.
Hampankatta. This place is a buyer's fancy. Everything from clothes, shoes, groceries, household stuff and also an Ice Cream Parlour. Yes, Ideal Ice Creams is the place to get the best and the tastiest stuff ever.
Suratkal and Someshwar Beaches. These are a really wonderful sight to see but it is also quite dangerous. For those of who like adventures, this is definitely one of them. With waves coming at you at more than 30 feet high, this gigantic baby is definitely a sight to see.
Nightlife in Mangalore is generally quite dull as the people over here go to sleep by nine itself. This wonderful place hosts to a variety of international students all engaging in various courses at different universities. St. Aloysius College and St. Agnes College have been one of the oldest and most succcessful institutions in Mangalore. Do take a tour of these Universities.
And to conclude this detailed view of'My Home', I would warn you.. The mosquitoes are deadly. Watch out for them
Cheers
