Mandira Bedi is an Enigma. For years she was best known for a small role in DDLJ and as a TV Soap actress. She was fairly well known, but definitely not a superstar.By the year 2003, one could be forgiven for thinking her career would be over.after all she was 31 and married(most Indian heroines tend to lose their appeal after marriage and either settle into domestic bliss or return later to play side roles). It was then that Mandira chose to re-invent herself, with stunning results.
She was the surprising choice of Sony TV to be an anchor during the 2003 World Cup. and it would be the turning point in her career.although her cricket knowledge(or lack of it) was ridiculed by many, she somehow managed to catch the fancy of the nation & helped boost the TRP's of the insipid Extra Innings Program. This would be attributed to her eye catching wardrobe. She went all out with Noodle strap Sarees(which would become her trademark), Tight tops and cleavage baring Sarees. For a while she was being discussed everywhere -Papers, Tabloids, Magazines, Internet forums etc. She attained the kind of popularity that even mainstream heroines couldn't manage in such a short time.
Mandira has continued for the last 4 years as a cricket host and has also hosted Fame Gurukul & Deal Ya No Deal. In every case however her wardrobe is discussed more than her performance.
Mandira has created controversies too-one regarding Tattoos on her body of religious symbols and another due to wearing the Indian flag on her Saree. Both raised the heckles of the moral brigade in the country.
In April, Mandira did a Daring photoshoot for mens magazine MAXIM.She was the first married woman to appear as their cover girl and her skin show would have come as a surprise to many.
at the age of 35, it is now up to her to decide which path she wants to take- That of a sex symbol or a serious mainstream actress
