This is from my observations at their Lumbini Mall (Banjara Hills) and Gachibowli outlet: FOOD: The menu is a confluence of all South Indian cuisines: Kerala, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka. Means right from your Chettinad savouries to Gongura pickle and of course the usual idli dosa and appams, you get it all here.
Just that you would barely want to lick your fingers. Infact, wish you headed for "Chutney's" instead. I personally find the North Indian preparations more edible than their South Indian. AMBIENCE: The Lumbini Mall one, though remains packed just always, has a lot better ambiance than the Gachibowli one.
One evening at the latter outlet, they actually had a whole bunch of kids running about - just like you have at your house. The screech and ramble so got into my nerves that I kept wishing if only I could lay my hands on them and beat the whole bunch up. SERVICE: The Lumbini Mall one remains sated so personal attention is a far cry.
So the Gachibowli one, for obvious reasons, pampers you. VALUE FOR MONEY: Meal for two can is 500ish or above. The problem is all you don't like all their items equally. So at times a good blend helps. Like we had N.Indian palak paneer, S.Indian stuffed brinjal and naan - all for Rs.600/4 people and we were happy.
Other day, we had Egg Appam, Rogan Josh, Rumali Toti and casatta - all for Rs. 400/4 people and we swore not to go back there again. The flavors at Malgudi is unpredictable. Bank on the waiters for suggestions or go for the ones tried and tasted. Otherwise, if you really want to dig at good South Indian at very reasonable price -- Chutney's is the place.
