Your refrigerator definitely needs proper care and attention. Take care of it please!
At the onset, I have to agree with one thing. This is not going to be an interesting review as that of a mouth-watering recipe or of a cocktail drink. On the other hand, it is going to be full of advices as to how to care for your fridge. Hope you will bear with me!
Well, when you have spent so much money in buying a fridge, you should also take some pains to maintain it for it’s long and trouble-free life. Don’t you agree with me?
The first thing you do to maintain your fridge and freezer is to keep them clean to prevent the build-up of odor. Wipe up any spills immediately. Since it is the place where you store food, you will be opening it many times a day, and it tends to get dirtied outside as well as inside. You can clean the outside of fridge with a soft cloth or a sponge, soaked in little water. You should never use metallic scouring pads or strong alkaline solution to clean the outside or any part of the fridge.
The inner surface of the fridge tends to get dirtied very fast, because of the leakage of food, if you have not closed it properly. You can rinse those surfaces with warm water, mixed with two tablespoons baking soda. You must rinse and dry thoroughly. Also, make sure that there is no excess water around the light bulb or any electrical parts. Remove the excess water with the help of sponge or a cloth.
The removable parts such as the drawers can be washed with mild detergent. But, don’t use harsh cleaners. Don’t wash them in dishwasher either.
Remember to defrost your fridge periodically.
When replacing the light bulb, you must remember to unplug the fridge. Then, don’t forget to plug the fridge back in.
If you are going on a short vacation, you can leave the fridge operating, after using up all the perishable items. In that case, you can wrap and store other items in the freezer.
If you are going on a long vacation, you must remove all food items and ice. Turn off the control and disconnect the power. Defrost and clean the interior thoroughly. You should also leave both doors open to prevent odor and mold buildup.
Hope you’ll keep all these points in mind to keep your fridge ever new and nice!
