This is not about Skoda cars but about their post sale service abilities. The car is a peach however because of the bad service capabilities and dealer attitude the overall brand value and goodwill of Skoda is surely getting eroded. I have switched from Maruti to Honda to Skoda now and for sure will not stay with them for this single reason when it comes to my next car.
All Skoda enthusiasts need to be wary of the post sale issues. Skoda after sales sucks. The single dealer concept offers no competition and is a monopoly. I have read horror stories all over internet and personally have experienced the service with my cars.
The popularity of the car renders the single dealer arrangement of Skoda for post sales useless. Most times the dealer hardly has time to attend to the issue and is just busy doing perfunctory service and not cater to anything not in the company prescribed checklist. Rudimentary service items like car wash, dent and paint, accessories and anything not part of regular service is never addressed nor possible at the dealer. The dealers are least interested as it does not make money.
They only cater to the checklist-based-high-paying-oil-changing-mechanical-work. I am based in Hyderabad and the dealer - Mahavir - is so high handed that it simply does not bother him about these issues. Ironically Skoda India chooses to be silent in this regard in spite of scores of complaints. Had they really been serious of these goings-on things would have been lot different.
The only way you can assure your interest is either by not purchasing this car or by getting a written assurance while purchasing that you wont face issues. I do not see any other way out until we get some regulatory help from the government.
