Though it was my second time there, it was only this time that I got the time to examine it. This was on June 10th when we had to board the train back to Pune from there.
We had enjoyed the taxi ride to the station as we had a very talkative driver but his talk was very informative and so we didn't feel bored for the hour or so that we were on the road. Ther scenery too kept us engaged.
Alas, as soon as we reached the station it began to rain hard. And we found out that, due to the Monsoon timing, our train which was to be at about 5, I think, was to now start an hour or so later.
As we had been on tenterhooks sitting in the hotel reception from about 12 noon waiting for our train tickets to be confirmed - which they were, finally, at 2 pm - we wanted to relax now and first went to the station restaurant.
This was quite clean and had a large selection of food and beverage. I had a coffee and cheese sandwich and my husband had a coffee and a plate of vadas.
Then we found a AC lounge and used it to relax for Rs. 25 or so each. We could charge our phones and there were nice sofas for us to sit and read.
As we wanted to smoke a cigarette and the station was a no smoking zone and it was raining, I approached the police and they were very decent and showed me a little spot near an ATM.
Finally it was time for the train to come and we had to get to the next platform and how thrilled we were to find an escalator!
All in all it is one of the better railway stations that I have experienced in India.
I do wish they sold umbrellas and raincoats though.
The lounge toilet could have been a little drier but, on the whole, it was quite clean.
