On 2/2/2008 I purchased two Luminous LE 16000 batteries from Sanduja Air Conditioning in Gurgaon for my Su Kam 1400VA Inverter. After about three weeks, in the first week of January 2010, the batteries again packed up. When I reported to the company they refused to do anything, on the plea that the warranty period was over.
Finally, on 9/1/2010 I had to buy two new Exide tubular batteries, spending about Rs. 19, 000.
Even before the Luminous batteries, I had faced a similar problem with Prestolite batteries, which lasted just about a year or so. It is clear that the batteries being given by these companies are not new but reconditioned. Even if they give new batteries, the replacements given under warranty are definitely not new. When one buys a new battery, the dealers always take back the old battery for about Rs. 1500. What they do with the old battery? Obviously, it is supplied to another customer as a new battery. I am told Exide does not do this, but I am not sure.
