Well, my experience on Lufthansa has not been as significant as on other European carriers such as Air France and British Airways. However, flying four times with them in the last two years, makes me competent enough to present to you, gentle readers an analysis of what's good and bad about them.
My first sight of Lufthansa was not good. The girl at the check-in counter was kinda rude...no smile on her face. I thought perhaps, my luggage is overweight, but I was way below the limit... she checked my passport and tickets and handed me a boarding card, again without a smile...was she having a bad day?? I dunno, but this was at Washington Dulles...chances are she was a contractor and not a Lufthansa employee.
My flight to Frankfurt was smooth...no aircraft problem, attendants were courteous but the plane was too big... Toilets were inadequate for the number of passengers inside the aircraft.
When we arrived in Frankfurt, I decided to use the first class lounge there. I was accepted in it, cause I have this Delta First Class lounge membership and they have a reciprocal arrangement with Lufthansa. Anyway, I did not like the fact that they were very particular about my identity...sure, go ahead...it's the real me!
The Lufthansa ticketing staff in some countries that I visited (India, UAE) on this trip was ’’not helpful.’’ Inspite of presenting extenuating reasons they were unable to help me change my travel dates. One would expect Sr. Management to be courteous to passengers, unfortunately Lufthansa’s were ’’sorry, we can’t change your date, flight is full...boom hung up the phone.’’
Trust me, I bought a fresh return ticket on another airline cause Lufthansa would just not change the date...I still have the unused ticket to prove that! Come get me, and find out why am being cranky!
Yeah, Lufthansa literally owns the Frankfurt Airport, so you can expect some service from them there, but outside Germany, they are really ’’mean.’’
Choices of meal and entertainment inside the aircraft is limited...stewardesses act like they are some mannequins...well that’s not a good analogy but they are more concerned about how they look, rather than serving the passengers.
Oh, am I being too harsh in reviewing them? Not really, it’s just a relative comparison, cause I have flown atleast 20 airlines in the last 10 years.
I try to avoid Lufthansa if I can.
