What could have been an exceptational movie - there were all ingredients for such - the movie ''Lucky'' turned out to be another ordinary Bollywood boredom. This is because the directors - new or old - cannot just go out of typical Bollywood mode for the fear of box-office failure. This fear has made this lion a hare.
First, all the songs were unnecessary. Many will debate, because some people just cannot imagine that a movie can be without songs. We should blame this on the imagination of those people. All the songs broke the grip in the main plot of the movie.
Secondly, the directors/script writers (whoever ''creates'' a movie) could have made this movie a brilliant political statement on terrorism and violence - how it originates, and how it hampers the life of ordinary. What is the root cause of terrorism, and how and what can be done to counter the threat. Of course, we all can differ in the means and methods to be employed, but the directors should come up with an opinion and prevail upon people. Or, let people decide for themselves in a balanced output.
Instead of capitalising on such an enormous possibility, the directors went in a crowd-pulling mode, and brought in Mithun Chakraborty, as a funny and seriously out-of-place detective. This character was unnecessary, and it defeated all the possibilities that the film actually opened up.
Acting was good from Salman Khan and Ms. Ullal. While Ullal may not have performed well, as many pointed out, we should give her a credit because she is under-age, and this is her first film.
