I was a student at LPU for four years. I was doing B.Tech Chemical Engineering. This is my honest review, what happened with me in four years in LPU.
MY JOURNEY
A straightforward process to take admission. I took admission through online mode. I am from Kerala. I came to know about LPU through some advertisements and a family friend in Punjab. Then I contacted them through a phone number and wrote some emails. They answered very quickly, and it was an easy process. I applied through their website, and they asked me to pay a small amount. I don't remember how much it was, and I appeared the LPUNEST exam online in one café near my town. Then I got selected based on both my higher secondary marks and LPUNEST results. Based on the percentage of marks, we will be eligible for the scholarships. Then they informed me everything about the college and the date of joining. There is an induction program of three days prior to starting of the academic year. So I reached LPU with my family and verified my documents and everything. I got allocated to a hostel room on the very same day. Everything went smoothly, and it was an easy process.
1.ACADEMICS
There is a wide variety of branches from Architecture to medical fields like physiotherapy etc. The fees depend upon the course; however, you can get a scholarship of 30000-50000 per semester for individual students. I am a chemical engineering student, and we were the first batch, and they did all the experiments with us, obviously. Few of our teachers were good compared to what they claim. They always bring faculties from IITs and NITs that's OK, but most of them are so bad at teaching. Not only CSE students but mostly all the engineering streams should study C, C+, and DBMS there; it is mandatory and a part of the syllabus. We were packed having so much tight schedules and forget to live our lives there, to be honest. The subjects which should be taught as two modules in different semesters were combined together and delivered in one semester itself, that was a lot to handle. We had every subject that should be taught to a chemical engineer, but we studied only theory parts. The teacher will come to the class with their pre-made ppt/pdf and deliver the lecture; actually, they just read the ppts loud, and that's it, nothing else. And they will give this ppt for us to study and the same will be asked in the exam. Some teachers won't even teach the whole syllabus; they will rush you when the exam is nearby, saying I have to complete it, so please read the ppt by yourself.
2.EXAMINATION
There is a series of examination right from the beginning of the semester. It goes like this-CA-1, CA-2, MIDTERM, CA-3, and END TERM. The weightage of the class assessments are more significant than the midterm; the exam consists of MCQs and a written part. Most of the questions will be from the internet and sites like sand foundry and all. Passing the exams isn't so much of a big deal in LPU, but the problem comes when you go and try to write an exam outside the university. There are five reappears for a subject, and if you still fail in all of them, you will get backlog. For cracking GATE and other exams, you should then study from level 1 on your own. Weightage is divided among the following- attendance, MTE marks, ETE marks, and CA marks.
3.FACULTIES
Most of the faculties care about their money and time only. They won't care whether you study or not or you pass your exams. They have a hell of an ego. They teach for the brilliant students and the above-average students; they don't even care about your existence if you are a below-average student. But there are good faculties also who really want their students to reach somewhere, but very few. And one thing I have studied is don't judge them based on how many doctorates they have or where they are from, not all IIT and NIT professors are good at teaching.
4.SCHOLARSHIP
Most of the people get attracted to the scholarship part, and yeah, that is their highlight. But here is the catch. If you spend a little more money and study at a good university and get a good job, that is far better than spending money to get a degree in paper and being jobless. The scholarship is the golden key they use against every student, whatever happens, they will threaten the student saying they will cancel the scholarship.
5.JOB
They will make you sign up for placement, but they won't guarantee you jobs. They show 100% placement and all. But placement in LPU is just a comedy. A placement cell is a group of arrogant people, they don't really care whether you get placed or not in a good company or your salary is good, or your relationship with the company, all they do care is about the company, they want the company to place students next year too, so that they can advertise more saying 100% placements. They can even place you in non-core companies like If I want to go to an IT company, why the hell should I study chemical engineering.
6.HOSTEL
What they show you in the advertisement is not really what a hostel room looks like. For an OK looking hostel room and average facilities, they charge high. And you won't be alone in your room at any time; dogs will be most probably occupying your bed. As a girl, I have to say this most of the days we see dogs scattering the waste bin here and pulling pads that are used and disposed of in the container. There is a food facility(optional), laundry facility(optional), wifi facility etc.
7.FOOD
Completely vegetarian campus. You can't bring non-vegetarian food from outside to the campus. If you do, so they will cancel your scholarship. Mess foods are not great. There are options like south Indian/North Indian/continental, but it is not worth money. Inside the campus, there is a lot of food courts and kiosks with a wide variety of food items available(vegetarian).
8.UNIFORM
There is no dress code in LPU. You can wear whatever you want. For particular courses and subjects, there is a uniform, like a hotel management and soft-skills.
9.EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Music, dance, art, sports, everything is there. You can join whatever you want, and you will glow if you have talent. There is this entire building called Divison of Student Activities, and there are a wide variety of clubs we can join and so many activities we can participate
10.ATTENDANCE
75% attendance is a must. And if you don't have 75% attendance, there is a high risk of detaining from exams. But classes during winter are challenging, believe me, I had classes from morning 8 am in the winter season. They consider the individual attendance of each subject as well as the aggregate. You need an aggregate of 75% of all the subjects if you can't attend the final examination, they will now consider your individual attendance, and you can write the exams for the subjects which have more than 75% individual attendance. You will get backlog for other subjects. That is a partial backlog.
11.INFRASTRUCTURE
World-class infrastructure. LPU is the largest private university in India. There is a lot of buildings, parks, auditoriums, food courts, so many things to see in LPU itself.
12.RAGGING
Ragging free campus is a highlight of LPU. Zero tolerance for ragging.
13.CAMPUS LIFE
If you have good friends, your campus life will be remarkable for sure. You will get to see so many celebrities in LPU, there will visit LPU for promotion, and there will be concerts, events, etc.
-Some other things I just want to mention is there will be late entry time in hostels, restrictions.
-9 to 5 schedule is very exhausting with extra assignments and exams.
-If you are 5 min late in the class, you won't get the attendance of that hour.
-UMC that is cases against you for fighting or caught suspicious under some circumstances, do not fight with securities, they can put you in a lot of trouble.
-Girls can't go outside their hostel after late entry time, and that time depends upon the season(it will be 6-7 pm in summers and 5-6 pm in winters.
-Even if some events and concerts are going on inside the campus also hostellers have to take permission to go there, they will inform your parents, you have to take an online slip, blah blah blah.
-Taking leave isn't an option in LPU. They don't need to know whether you are going to die or not; they just want you to attain 75% attendance.
-There are no sick leaves in LPU. At the time of admission, you will see a building full of faculties for helping you out for various things, but once you are a student over there, it is difficult for you to find answers for your queries
-In these four years of my life, the only thing that improved in my life is language(Hindi and English) and some confidence. Other than that, I haven't had so much experience or exposure over there, really. So if you want to choose LPU to think twice before going there if you want to make a career and study really hard, I think you have better options in India, and if you want to have a good college experience and just fun, I think you can choose LPU.
.
This is just my opinion. It can vary from people to people depending upon their experience in LPU.
