My first reaction after watching the movie "bahut load hai yaar!!!! kharaab nahin hai but then my head seems to be big, need a bear!!!"
I don't know what actually went wrong with the script or with the direction but something was not right.
Very highly influenced by "HUM TUM".
Actually the Saif Ali Khan character is totally a Xerox copy of the one he played in HT. The same confused syndrome which later on resulted into "frustration-aggression" syndrome.
Deepika's character was very unclear throughout for me. I think Imtiaz Ali wanted his audience to read through his character's eyes. Since the first "break-up" of the movie I needed to know how much she felt for Saif. When Saif asked her for a split cause she was hibernating to India to paint the walls of old forts and monuments, it seemed as if she was not happy but then sometime later she seemed to be as cool as Saif with the whole "break-up" thing and was planning to move into other relation till the day when Saif again reappears in her life and she gets confused and becomes the "shikaar" of same confused syndrome. So here is the difference between LAK and HT, both the characters here are confused for some time. Rani in HT realized her love and Saif took some time. Here too Deepika gets out of the confusion and Saif's confusions end after a song in which I went to the rest room!!!
Rishi Kapoor plays the part of elder pa ji Saif. He guided the young generation Saif through every dilemma (I think most of them were created by Rishi himself. Saif was cool till he started insisting him that he has actually done wrong by letting Deepika go.).
This was the story in bits and pieces with the characterization which didn't influence me much.
Acting gets full marks. No one is less competitive compared to other, let it be the now very mature Saif or the new Deepika or the veteran Rishi. Rahul Khanna is inclined to end his career, I think. Why is he accepting such roles which don't at all define his talents. A complete waste!
Music was good, not brilliant. Getting used to Pritam now.
Bottom line; inspite of the very modern dialogue lines and the mostly youthful looks, the movie didn't impress me a lot mainly cause of the long depressive and overly and suddenly romantic climax, though I really loved Deepika beating Saif. It was cute!!!
Not bad but can be avoided if you want to. Not a must watch for sure!!!
