As far experience is concerned, I am travelling by local trains in Mumbai since more than 30 years. Every year with increase in number of trains I dream to improve the situation. The 12 cars came..... same situation. As far profits are concerned, local trains are certainly in profit. No political leader attempts to improve as this is NOT A VOTE BANK. I need not tell how railway administration works.....how railway is put to loss etc.
I have a feeling that if local services privatized it may give some benefits and comforts to the commuters. The private owner will definitely look for profits, and in doing so he will stop all the leakages. The Govt. can control ticket rates. The subject is very much important and has to be taken very much seriously by all the Mumbaikars.
