"Like it happened yesterday" by Ravinder Singh deviates from the author's usual trend of romantic novels which made him a bestseller. This novel revolves around his childhood stories, aimed at inducing nostalgic thoughts in the reader's mind.
Though the theme of childhood tales is something that is very appealing in the first place but it is the author's execution and the flow of the story which lets the novel down. Although it would be very unfair to put down the novel entirely, it does have its fair share of interesting moments. We are taken down the memory lane when the author quite boldly shares his tales of First Brush with adulthood(read: first ejaculation story) when he didnt even knew what it meant. Almost everyone of us were confused at that adolescent age and this example in the book connects. Then there is the instance of first teacher crush which is something quite common with adolescent age. Although these 2 instance do connect, but there is something missing in the story and that is the flow of the storyline.
The novel could have been a good tool to travel through childhood memories only if the stories could have been better structured and connected with examples of childhood perspectives . Somehow, despite having a good theme the novel falters somewhere in maintaining the energy in its storyline and misses out.I would rate it 2 stars out of 5. Ravinder is better suited in his genre of romantic novels but I liked his idea of experimenting with the novel.
