My model no. LG MC-808WAR rather sparingly used since it was bought. The model is out of warranty.
The front touch panel is faulty and LG authorized service personnel rather rudely said that original model service spare is not available. And compatible pad will be used of model MC8048 something. This too he told us after opening our microwave for service.
He was already in foul mood and started rough handling and bumping and dragging the microwave while attempting to close it.
We asked him warranty by LG of new spare to work and he said there will be no warranty, not a single day. On asking him we want to mention this in LG report about why we were not informed that original spare was discontinued, he says we need to pay up visit charges first or else he will report that "customer is not willing to pay". When asked "why he doesn't prepare a visit report and why he wants to report incorrectly that we were unwilling to pay, when the fact is that we expected proper in-advance notification about the same that the original model spare part is unavailable and a compatible(clearly cheap quality) spare is being provided by LG."
I tried posting this with their website email but it keeps returning error message. The complaint has been escalated verbally with their helpline. Waiting for a reply from their senior person.
About the Model itself -
We bought the model as it seemed to be a not so cheap model then and from the looks and stainless steel innards it seemed rather up-market when compared with other similar brands.
The membrane switches are sub-standard and apparently from various reports online many people have faced trouble within the second year.
How do I say it's sub-standard?
Well we own a National brand Fully automatic Washing Machine since year 1988 and it's membrane switches are still functioning completely well even today without so much like a service ever done to them.(of course it's a made Japan CBU)
Other major shortcomings of the design is that the model design is more prone towards small domestic pests like small tiny cockroaches that somehow creep inside the back panel holes and cavities and multiply there. This inspite of daily cleaning and getting it a cover of it's own.
Pest control sprays did help a bit but these cavities are a trouble and breeding ground and one wouldn't expect the microwave's innards and electronics to be exposed to pests.
The heating, defrost and other functions are just like other competitive grill microwave that my friends own of different brands, with nothing exceptional in those areas.
