Terrificly Romantic. Review on Kuch To Log Kahenge

Well these days I have become a Sony Channel fan, the only Teleserial channel, which could hold my attention, which started with KBC5, then came to Saas Bina Sasural, and then Bade Achche Lagte hain and the best one which I felt, Parvarish. However, I usually get bored with sugar coated Romantic stuffs, usual dance drama etc, and this is why despite of being aired for long time, I did not give this one "Kuch Toh Log Kahenge" any attention, thinking it as any run of mill tele-serial. I was proved wrong, the day, I watched one of its episode, dealing with valentine's day, and I was taken with surprise by the depth and maturity shown in the treatment of this teleserial, which today I feel is among the most romantic teleserials ever made, and much better than several romantic movies.

Storyline: Its a mismatched lovestory, where the girl, Dr Nidhi, has been much younger than the man, Dr Ashutosh, the dean of Kourtnis Hospital at Lucknow, under whom she did her medical internship to become doctor. Dr Ashutosh had a history of failed relationships in past, and this man has become highly cocooned, totally dedicated to his work and very stern. In the same hospital, Dr Mallika, an old confidenate of Ashutosh and his friend, has been in love with Ashutosh for many years. Ashutosh knows her soft corner, still does not take his friendship to romantic level with her. Nidhi, as a youngster, in her initial appearance did not make any good impression with Dr Ashutosh, but finds himself getting attracted and falling in love gradually, whch Nidhi too discovers. Family of Nidhi is against this all. The current stage is that a tragic point in their relationship has arrived, where both of them have to be separated. I will not divulge more now.

What makes it to work: Believe me, this teleserial is not an emotional drama but rich of emotional notes, underlines, and the way it has been presented. Absolutely accurate punctuations in the scenes, as well as dialogues have been given.

Point 1: Superb performances. Both the lead characters(Dr Ashutosh Played so far by Mohnish Behl, Now replaced) and Dr Nidhi( played by youngster Kritika Kamra) have displayed great maturity in their performance which will leave you spellbound. Even the performances by rest of the cast is excellent one. The lady who played Dr Mallika too has been great, and very absolutely displayed her emotion to feal jealous of Nidhi but for her pure love for Ashutosh, the grey character in her has to compromise with Nidhi as the choice of Ashutosh.

Point 2: Good understanding and maturity displayed in direction and script. The makers have shown very apt understanding of human psychology and presented a refined love story without any Nautanki and loudness or overdose of emotion, with thorough subtlity.

Point 3: Treatment: Watch it and learn how elegently dialgoues have been written with proper pause and correctly matching background score. I am pretty impressed with the dialogue delivery of the female lead, Dr Nidhi( an certainly with her looks and dressing, dressing with excellent Kurta.).There have been some romantic dialgoues and Shers, which made some scenes memorable. I wanted the same more in such teleserials. Will come back to this point later. Backdrop of Lucknow has been used to add genuineness in its elegant treatment, and nowhere you would any hurried moment. The mood of the serial is running in every frame, with much needed paucity and poise.

Demerits:

Though it is not much there, there were some turn offs to me when I learnt that this teleserial has been actually lifted from a PTV superhit serial "Dhoop Kinare". I really hate copying and for me it is a sign fo creative hollowness. Still this is OK here, because we don't have access to PTV. However the producers could have bought the rights of "Dhoop Kinare" to show it in India, instead of remaking it. Original is always original, no matter how good you become technically up.the original is always better because its strength is the raw emotion with which it was made first.

My second suggestion would be that had been that given the high quality of script and treatment, and inclusion of emotional nature of bondings, the scenes would benefit very much had you used some more urdu driven dialogues with proper mix of current lingo, and most of the emotional scenes, either punctuated or underlined with some really god sher or dialogue. You did it with some shots and they became memorable. According to me when the story is so spiritual and deep, shayari based commentary on the scene becomes a genuine desired component to make the enhancement.

Verdict: After a long time, a really classic romantic serial has come to TV. I Hope the director take some clues from old time classics based on rich human emotions like Phir Wahi Talash Hai(remember Chandan Das title shers and ghazal for this one which will instantly move you and glow your heart) or Zameen Asmaan on Doordarsh( Directed by Mahesh Bhatt) or Neem Ka Ped( Remember title song by Jagjeet Singh.Awazon ko Duniya Mein).and essentialy take help of Urdu writers to further glorify the scenes of this already good Romantic Teleserial. I definately recommend it to all who love quality and that too on TV. Yes, it again proves my one old belief that movie art becomes ballistic if it is supported with good writers and literatures, as was with this serial too(actually Dhoop Kinare) is based on some Novel.

Jaate-Jaate: I pity Mohanish Behl, who quit such a good stuff, which could have redefined his career. Man sometimes listening to your hallucinating wife does not pay. Never allow any relationship to play with your profession and keep the two always apart. You could have convinced her that you had fallen in love with Dr. Nidhi on screen only not in reality!
