Very few instance do we see progression..."
That’s true in real world, that too in Indian cinema looking at the budget and the reach its very difficult to make a cult movie or nice science fiction movie with good special effects. Even movies can be made of our Godly saga like Ramayana and Mahabharat but it would look futile and pale with our kind of budget and the arrows and bows would still look like a cardboard. Hence if some of our directors are making a progression towards spending extra bucks without thinking whether the audience would take it in the right spirit it’s a good sign of improvement for the Indian Cinema.
Indian Audience
Indian audience are the most unpredictable audience in the world you give them a crap movie they can make it a hit and you give them a excellent piece of work they would blow that thing off. A crap movie like Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Ghum can be a hit so what can I say of your audience. So forget the audience they are going to always flock to a Sharukh movie hence who really cares what the indian audience are looking at. Hence taking away the Indian response and the perception for a superhero movie lets look at why this movie can click and can work and what is the most I liked about it.
Background
I was always found of movies which entertain me through action, fear & Comedy. I hate movies that make me cry hence I strictly avoid such movies. I had always liked Hrithik as an actor, he is methodical like Aamirand not too much interested in the front page galore. If you look at the kind of movies he has acted in it’s been livelier and he has tried to do something different each time. Krrish to begin with is a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya which was itself a copy of ET, but really who cares it was made in such a good manner that people who had seen ET also applauded it because of the Indian version. We are humans and we like things which are made locally, even MNC’s like Mc Donald’s had to bent their back to make their products more Indian. We can apply same policy that KMG was a good Indian version of ET and of course it created history with exceptional Kid’s response. Krrish begins where KMG ends with Krishna(Hrithik)son of Rohit Mehra (Hrithik ..Kmg who is no longer alive ) has got some exceptional power thanks to Jaadoo’s parting gift to Rohit which in turn has been inherited to Krishna. Now Krishna is way ahead of Rohit with his intelligence, power, and agility can’t be matched even by a horse. Krishna’s granny is not very happy seeing this power hence she vanishes out of the common people and gets him to a beautiful hill village where Krishna friends, Mother Nature and his best friends are animals, birds, water, trees. He grows having bournvita and of course more power this time. Then of course none of the movies would have twist and turns without a lady luck, hence enters Priya (Priyanka Chopra) lips pouting, screaming and large eyes beautiful lady. Our superhero saves the lady and of course after lot of sidekick so called comedy, Krishna falls in love. But mind you our lady doesn’t even think about love but of course she is impressed by him. Our lady leaves the hill village and leaves for Singapore where she belongs too and when she returns their needs to be a reason for our Superhero to come to Singapore.
So Priya and her sidekick make a plan to get Krishna to Singapore to save their job and their job as a reporter they have to get stories so what better stories then our Superhero showing off his amazing super power. So they convince him come to S’pore by telling him that Priya loves him. Before leaving India, our Superhero gets to know lots of secret about his father and his death but still something are mysteries. So once in the Skyscrapper land our hero has lot of opportunity to show of his super power by saving people and donning a superhero mask and get himself rechristened as KRRISH.
Now, in the mean time a Mad Scientist (how typical of Superhero movies) Siddhart Arya (Nasserudin Shah)is on the verge of destroying the world by becoming God. Now Mad Scientist has a past which is attached to Krrish, from here onwards begins a very short battle between Krrish and Mad Scientist. I don’t want to tell you more what happened and why there is a battle between Krrish and Mad Scientist as it would be like being a spoil sport and telling you some secrets.
The Operation Theatre…
Now Krrish did entertain me really well except for the pathetic songs. The movie really belongs to Hrithik and Special Effects. Even though we can’t even compare them with Hollywood movies, I think so this is the best movie with special effects used in any Indian movie as the quality was really the best. Though, as I mentioned earlier we can’t even compare with Hollywood movies, for a moment lets stop comparing, because the Burger we get in US won’t be the same we get here. So instead of comparing let me tell you the action sequence has been well crafted and in fact the audience actually were cheering and clapping on the action sequence where Krrish fights the motorbike goons. But for me the best one was the fast action piece sequence during the end, I guess one of the best in Indian movies.
On the negative note, the emotional angle of the Superhero was very weak and doesn’t have a very strong reason for him to be a Superhero. Also in all the superhero movies you would find the Villan to be very very mean and bad. Unfortunately Siddhart Arya doesn’t even for a second bring fear to me. Even a lover boy hero’s of Indian movies can take him single handedly. Just send Sunny Deol to him, it would be more than enough. Hence Krrish doesn’t go under much stress or pain to kill the Mad Scientist. It was too easy for Krrish which was a major draw back of this movie.
Hirthik is not only a good actor but an exceptional dancer and of course the amazing stunts have been well executed by him. Priyanka Chopra has become a pain she can’t act but for some good odd reason getting some good movies. Nasser is a master actor but unfortunately he looked more mean in Mohra then he looked here hence his role was too weak to be a mad scientist.
Overall this is a sigh of relief from the Karan Johar and Yash Chopra saga and welcome change that Indian movies are taking the initiative to make a good action movie with spending some money on special effects. So I would say a good start for the Special Effects Genre but still we are atleast 50years behind Hollywood.
Go ahead and watch Krrish , I am sure you would like the Indian version of Superhumanand believe me it’s a Indian Version and be proud of the First Superhero of Indian Cinema.
