Recently while visiting home at lucknow I was roaming around kapurthala when my wife spotted an exclusive koutons showroom displaying a signboard of 50+20 % discount. As women are wont to, she pressurised me into buying a cotton trousers inspite of my protestations (you know how it happens in lower middle class families). I also felt elated as the pair which carried a pricetag of Rs. 999/- was mine for only Rs. 400/- and I praised my wife.
However, the fun started when the pair was given a wash. In the first wash itself it looked as if the entire thing was in tatters, the fabric softener that had been used so lavishly on the cloth, came out leaving behind a pair which looked more like a "ponchcha", a floor cleaning cloth called so in North India, for the uninitiated. The second wash was even more fun as the cloth came out in patches. I tried contacting the company but have failed so far. The same thing happened to a pair of corduroys that I had bought from Parx, two years earlier, but was replaced by the company. this company is a much cheaper brand targeted at the voiceless lower middle class and therefore cares two hoots.
