A banking strategy which is new in this world

A small story about the Kotak Credit card. Small because my experience with the Kotak Cards ends with the application stage.


I have banking relationship with Kotak Mahindra. I found that their service is good and overall it is satisfactory till date. At that time they lunched their credit card and I found that it is with good features. So I liked to apply for the same as the banking relationship is good.


I called their customer center for that. Within two days one sales guy contacted me and made an appointment. On the phone he asked me to keep ready some documents (address proof, income proof, PAN card proof) and asked if I had any credit card then a photocopy of it. I told I didn't have any card. The sales person did not came on the day and never call back me. So after 10 days I mailed to the bank and after 10 days another person came to my office on a pre-appointed date. There was a very little form to fill up and he had taken the all the necessary docs. He also asked if I had any credit card then to provide a photocopy of it. I had ICICI card but I said NO because giving a photocopy of the credit card to someone seemed not a wise able thing to do. After 30 days I didn't get any response. So I called their customer center and asked for the status. They said no application was there with my name.


So a lodged a complain to them. Within 1 hr I got a call from Kolkata office (my home town) that somehow the application has been rejected and asked me to fill up a new application. So I did accordingly. Now this time I got call from their office and they verified my details as per the application form. I was happy that his time this would be going to process. Suddenly today I got a call from my personal banking officer if the service from Kotak Bank is OK or not. I told her my experience with Credit card. She promised me to get back soon and within 1 hr the sales person call me regarding this problem. I told that I have not received any response or card. He told me that my application has been again rejected because I don't have any existing credit card with other bank. What a response!! To apply for a Kotak card we need to have other credit card. What a business strategy!! If they are so afraid to issue a credit card to a person (who already have a priority account with them). Anyway, what can be done if they want to do business with this policy.


My point is, I have submitted some valuable document with my personal details to them twice. They should return it back to me. Who will take the risk if these are misused. Here we don't have proper authority through which I can create pressure on them. I will conclude this with the last response of the sales person in our last conversations..


"Sir I have a friend from ICICI bank. You please submit the necessary documents and fill up the form for the ICICI credit card. They will issue the ICICI card with 15 days. Give me the photocopy of that card, I promise you that within 15days you will get the Kotak card".


What should I say!!!


I am confused whether I should recommend this card or not...There should be a third option..
