I am not a photography expert, so I wont start my review by providing my credentials and proving my expertise. There are other experts here on Mouthshut who have a great expertise on the subject example: Cuchillo, HitenRmehta etc. My review is of Kodak DC3200 which is a convinient, mid level digital camera, which I bought on my last trip to the US.
Now let me first tell you that Digital Cameras are great piece of equipment if you need to share photos with family and friend. You dont have to go through the hassle of developing the roll and scanning the pictures. At the same time Digital camera images are difficult to be printed. You can send your JPG files to online sites such as ofoto.com etc and they will print for you.
The model that I bought was on sale...that's the only reason I chose this. Usually priced $299 I got a bargain for $100 so I bought this one.
This camera is small and compact and has high resolution of 1.2mega pixels. The image quality is very sharp. There is an inbuilt zoom facility. Also there is a small screen to view your pics on the camera itself before transferring it to the PC. However, this screen is very small.
Kodak provided me with a CD which contained the software to enable transfer of pictures from camera to my computer. However, this software DOES NOT work on NT operating system. I Realized this very late. However, if you have 98 or 95 and a serial port, it will work fine.
Max. you can store 24 pics on the camera. If you want more, you need to transfer the pics to the comp and free up space on the camera. However, you can purchase a flash card which can increase the memory of this camera. This is an optional item. Current memory is 2mb.
Now what is the biggest disadvantage with this camera:
It requires FOUR pencil size battery which do not last more than 20 minutes!!!!!!!You can buy the optional AC adaptor, but whats the use of a digital camera if you have to run it on AC adaptor. Think and decide for yourself, otherwise it is ok. I did not like it much because I need to buy 4 batteries every 3rd day.
Thanks for listening to me and I hope Kodak fixes this problem.
