A problem in this camera, which I feel is a defect*!

I bought the digital camera to shoot the video of small few month old baby and the shop keeper convinced me it was great especially since there has been discount on camera price.

However, there is something which nobody told me. The video quality is very poor when video is shot inside building even during day time.

This means any time you want to shoot a video, you got to take the camera where there is proper light. Even video shot in tube light in the room does not come good. I am calling this a defect mainly because of 3 reasons.

  1. No where it is mentioned that this camera(for video) cannot be used in poor conditions.

  2. Many other brand cameras, which comes at the same or cheaper cost including those in ordinary mobile phones with just 1.3 MP have better clarity video.

  3. I recently came across Kodak's M series camera where this problem seems to have been rectified.

In the C-713, all adjustments for light can be made for shootingpictures under any light condition. However, the problem is that when you move the rotating switch to the video mode, it has to pass through Auto mode where all this setting is reset resulting in poor light. This I feel was a design problem as I found in the Kodak M series(the particular one I saw) the video mode location has been shifted so that the light setting does not get reset when shifting to Video mode.

There is heavy discount on the C713(i got for Rs. 5500/- now available at Rs.5000/-) and C813, but for those who want to take video under different light conditions, you better compare it with other brands or even the same brand Kodak with M series.

My experience is that the video shot in poor light condition using C713 was very bad compared to even videos taken under same light condition on an equivalent priced another brand or even for that matter a Sony, Samsung, or Nokia 1.3 or so megapixel camera.

Conclusion: Good for taking still pictures, worth for money. However, if you want to take videos under all light conditions, you just cannot adjust video light settings and there are other models and brands which give better quality picture in the same light condition for video and may be even for the same price!
