What starts on a very promising note ends up in quite a disappointment. Khakee directed by Rajkumar Santoshi could have achieved a lot more but once again the second half of a hindi film spoils it all.
But having said that Khakee is no doubt a nice attempt at offering something new for the audience but havnt we been saying that about a lot of hindi films now a days? Isnt it high time time that someone take the guts to offer something which totally off the block (like the masterful Satya did a few years back).
Khakee tells us about the life of the policemen through the its three main protagonist played by Amitabh, Akshay and Tushaar Kapoor. The film kicks of in grand style with some slick editing and stylish action sequences (bears a close resemblance to Balck Hawk Down). The first half just breezes through. Its the latter half which disappoints . The movie loses its smartness and moves towards the more cliched cop vs corruption stuff seen in many other films.
Infact it actually makes the police look more dumb. Rajkumar Santoshi concentrates more on the acting prowess of Amitji and less on the script which goes completely haywire. Added to that the the two songs which bores u more rather than provide some kind of a respite for the audience from the hard hitting action. Its like Rajkumar had an idea about a film and the twists and turns to surprise the audience but didnt know to put them all together .
On the positive side, the action sequences are well executed. Akshay Kumar is cool and has most of the one liners keeping the aduience entertained. Tushaar Kapoor is okay atleast acting within his limits. Aishwarya Rai, thankfully, has a short role and we don't have to look much into her attempts at acting. Ajay Devagan is alrite but we know he cld play such roles easily. One would have wished that Rajkumar could have projected a different Devgan knowing his abilities. The film is also well supported by other actors like Atul Kulakarni and the other 2 constables.
And above all there is Amitabh Bachchan. And when he is there on the screen the film becomes highly watchable. He is simply brilliant. Khakee is watchable only for this man.
