Khajuraho like all attractions in Madhya Pradesh, the exotic temples of Khajuraho are hidden within the surrounding of this heavily forested state.
Probably after Taj Mahal, Khajuraho is one of India’s major attractions & the reason why the world come here.
This group of temples was built in remote area which even today is not on the beaten track, never mind how it must have been a thousand years ago.
Built before so many years the temples of Khajuraho have something to teach to honeymooners, archaeologists and students of architecture alike. Even if you are not one of them, visit the place to enjoy the sheer beauty of it all. It took hundreds of years to build this cluster of three main temples and the creative genius of an unknown number of artists.
The temples are superb examples of indo-Aryan architecture and fantastic stone work. The sculptures show all aspects of Indian life, divinity, wars, woman, and sex. The last are probably the most conspicuous.
The temples are divided into the western, eastern and southern group. Close to the western is the archaeological museum with a fine collection of statues and sculptures.
HOW TO GO:
The nearest railway station is Satna. It can also be reached from Varanasi or Agra. By bus the journey from Agra is approximately 13-14 hrs. and coming from Mumbai, zansi is the nearest approach to Khajuraho. It is 6-7 hrs. By bus.
Best time to visit here is October to March.
