Kera about South Indian Food? If you mention South Indian eateries in Pune, especially our side of Pune (Pashan/Aundh/Baner), you are likely to be told about Kera. I even have a photo of an early visit to its branch in or near Bremen Chowk. At that time it looked small and dingy. And I don’t remember if we had anything worth mentioning at that time and if it was from there that my eldest brother-in-law brought us an Onam feast.

Good New Location Recently, a shop space next to the famous and unique Kumardhara has changed from a dentist clinic to an eatery. We ate there once but that place closed down and now Kera has opened there. My DIL and son also mentioned it to us. Due to its location it is very tempting to visit it as we often shop at Kumardhara and frequently pass that way in any case.

Sunday Brunch@South Indian Finally, this past Sunday, when we had to visit the Gaikwad petrol pump, I decided to pack a lunch for us from Kera. I skimmed the menu and chose the most unlikely items (ones which are unfamiliar to non-South Indians): Malabar parottas and kurma and Vangi Bhaath. The owner came and whispered softly to me that the latter is made with rawa. I was baffled for a second as I had expected a rice dish. But I quickly decided to try it anyway.

Verdict Both the items were well liked by us and the cost was about Rs. 130. The dishes were very nicely packed and a freebie of an app and soon and fork and tissues were neatly added. The amounts were sufficient and well appreciated for the price.

The parathas were so good I shall order them again when I make some Malayalee curries next. The kurma was quite yummy. It had that special flavour which is authentic. We each ate one parotta with half of the kurma each and it was tasty and filling.

The vangi bhaath is like an upma. it was hot and fresh and very flavoursome. As accompaniment there was a beetroot raita which was quite nice.

Listed as Closed Online it is listed as closed but you can still find the menu on zomato. I now want to order many other dishes by my yummy experience!
