I've been using this filter for last 4 years and if I look back I've spent almost twice the money on the repairs & maintenance than what I paid as the purchase price. Every time the filter stops working, the technician will tell you that some expensive part has gone bad and will charge you approx 2000 for repairs. and this happens very frequently, say every 2-3 months. So far, except for the body, I've replaced every single part in this filter and that includes even the tubes & elbows you see inside.
Do not go by the comments from people who claim they never had any problems. I suspect they may have been planted by the company reps themselves. The repair technicians which come from Kent authorised dealers(and I assure you I've dealt with atleast a dozen of them) tell that "they have replaced all parts in the filter they service with in 3-4 years of purchase and it is better to buy a new filter then keep on replacing parts". Thats why they keep the price of AMC for this filter at Rs. 5000(approx) which indicates that they expect a high failure rate of these machines.
CONS
High failure rate accompanied with high cost of spares.
Very low filtering output. 8 litres takes about 2 hours.
Poor water filtering efficiency. My Guesstimate is only 20-30% of water(from your supply) comes out as filtered & rest goes out as waste.
Service issues. Technicians take a lot of time to attend calls. No fixed charges for spares.
Technicians charge at their will & you are forced to pay as you drinking water supply is at stake.
I do not know if the competing filters in market are any better but for me the recurring cost of this filter is too high. When I bought it, there was no competitor in market offering a RO+UV filter but now I trust there are quite a few choices. If you really need an RO filter in your house then I would recommend to go find a better filter with lower cost of maintenance or hook up with a good "water can" supplier like Aquafina etc(which I intend to do). Acc. to my calculation the cost of buying bottled water is much lower than the cost of purchase & maintenance of this filter(not counting the associated headaches.).
