This review is dedicated to all the sweet toothians !!! :) And I am one of them !!! K C Das is heaven for people like us.
Upbeat Locality
Located in the portion of Bangaolore which is frequented by Bangaloreans and visitors alike, in Church Street opposite to Koshy's and British Council Library and recently Barista Coffee house, you cannot miss this place.
This place is also an old timer and has branches all over Bangalore. However the branches might not be having the seating facility like the main restaurant does.
One branch I know is in Indiranagar, Double Road, where you can peek in and get some sweets and pastries for your sweetheart. :)
From what I heard it was first started in Calcutta and then it spread all over India.
Nostalgia
The seating and the ambience reminds me of how restaurants used to be in the olden times.. again its a personal observation.. it might not seem that way to you at all. :)
Anyway, the seating arrangements are fine I must say though at peak hours like the place seems to be crowded and it would be easier to go sometime in the evenings by 5:00 and after 8:00.
5:00 pm is a good time as all the fresh sweets gets loaded at that time and you can have a feast :).
Sweets but Salts too
KC Das is famous for Bengali sweets . You can get to eat Cham Cham , Horsho Kodombo, Sondesh, Peda, Roshugolla, Gulab Jamun, Lal Mohan, Kacha Gola, Son Papdi etc etc etc etc ...
If you are lost in the names and the etcs dont worry, just get yourself down there and experiment with all the sweets they offer. You may find something which you like.
For my friends who are not into sweets this place has yummy Samosas and Kachori with chutney lined up. And you can also experiment with some great mixture and Roshugollas. Seems like a good ''foodtail''.:)
You can also chill out with a cuppa coffee or tea.
Last but not the least, you can have or take home some rabri and Misti doi( sweet curd). Those are the best in this place. I freak out on these two. You gotta compromise with calories though.
TIP: If you are pataoing a gal or want to treat your wife or take your daughter ( who loves samosas and puris) out for a drive on Sunday morning , you can stop by at this place and have the breakfast or Luchi and Aloo sabji ( puris and potato curry). Sounds very normal but the taste is freaky.... :):)
Steady on the table and reasonable on the pocket !!!
Depending on the crowd, the service time differs but I think the service is pretty ok . You have portly waiters shuffling around taking your orders .. and bringing them as if they have all the time in their hands but its an illusion, you will get everything at a good pace ...
Price of the sweets are okay. You can have a filling snack within 100/-.
My thoughts
This is an ideal place for a snack time. And after that if you are a magazine lover, you can browse at the magazine stand just outside KC Das. He has got an amazing collection of mags. .....
If you are feel adventurous.. and have some dough to blow up for the heck of it .... you could go pub hopping, and maybe catch a movie and end your evening with dinner at Koshy's :).
PS: If you want to gift some sweets to anyone going far away from Bangalore, you could try gifting them dry sweets liek San papdi or Kacha Gola. It will remain fresh !!
Added this point after Cheeky's comment !!! :)
