When was the last time you said ‘I love you Mum’? Are you the black sheep in your family? Do you feel ‘I wish I had a better family’? Are you the ‘perfect bacha’?

Well, we all go through a myriad of emotions every single day of our life. All of us have our apprehensions, dreams, and imperfections. Kapoor and Sons is all this and more. Thank you KJo for breaking away from the ‘It’s all about loving your family’ slogan. Every family has a story and each member contributes to a family coming together or falling apart.

Kapoor and Sons are a dysfunctional family. They indeed shower love and affection on one another. However, don’t be mistaken. This is not K3G! Are we not tired of mushy movies with happy conclusions, lavish sets and larger-than-life characters?

Shot in the modest and beautiful Conoor, Kapoor and Sons is a story of 2 brothers, their 90 year old grandpa played by the ever charming Rishi Kapoor, and their parents who are trying hard to save their marriage and financial troubles.

Rishi Kapoor plays the adorable Dadu. You can only fall in love with his character. He pretends to die when he is at the dinner table, he loves seeking attention, he applies face pack to look younger and watches Mandakini’s videos on ipapad(ipad)! His wish is to see his family coming together, with a beautiful photograph.

Ratna Pathak Shah plays the convincing mother to the hilt. She dotes on her elder son, Rahul(Fawad Khan) so much that she even steals her little son, Arjun’s(Sidhart) novel/story only to see her perfect bacha succeed.

Rajat Kapoor is a natural. He is so frustrated with his wife’s nagging and financial troubles that he cheats on his wife only to realise that they can ‘try’ being happy. But, is it too late?

Sidhart plays Fawad’s younger brother. He works as a part-time bartender in New Jersey and a struggling writer. On going home to visit his Dadu, he experiences that the constant comparisons still exist and a bitter truth.

Alia Bhatt plays Tia, a bubbly, vivacious, and fun-loving girl. She flirts with the handsome Fawad Khan and falls in love with Sidhart whom she meets at a party.

There is much more to all these characters, ugly secrets, bitter truths and a story that can make you identify with the characters. The Director, Shakun Batra has shown that not everything is hunky-dory in all families. I thoroughly loved the movie and the feel-good music. And yes, I can’t stop falling in love with Dadu:)
