I always used to like watching Kapil on field... batting bowling or field setting ( when captaining). He always used to give more than 100% to team and his country. I still remember 1985 Benson and Hedges series in Australia.. In all most all the matches by the time Kapil comes down to bat, the asking rate used to be 7 ~ 9 runs/over ( thanks to Ravi Shastry) and this man single handedly won such matches for india. During the period when he was captain, he used to command respect from all his team mates ( unlike our present captain) , lead from front. He beleived in other teammates capability and because of this he brought out best from his team to win worldcup for india in 1983. He was symbol of patriotism. Kapil is the roll model for budding pace bowler. being a fast bowler, it is amazing to note he has not missed even a single match on fitness grounds. Let me end this with some more incidences of Kapil's heroism....
1983 world cup ( Zimbabwe V/S India) ... India were struggling with 17/5 against the then cricket's baby.. Kapil slammed unbeaten 175 to steer india to comfortable victory.
1983 world cup final ... WI were chasing 184 to win and Richard was hitting boundaries at will and they were cruising towards victory. Then came a stunning catch by Kapil to dismiss Richard which tilted the match India's way
1986 Aus V/s India at Madras(Tied test) .. In Reply to Australia's 574/7, India were struggling to avoid follow on.. Kapil came down to bat and played electrifying unbeaten knock ( 119 N.O) to help india avoid follow on (i.e India bowled out for 397). Eventually , the test ended in tie ( From the brink of defeat to tie).
1990 test series ( England) ..Kapil was batting when India required 24 runs to save the follow-on against England at Lord's with Narindra Hirwani at the other end, he played first two balls defensively and slammed four consecutive sixes to save india
