I would love to see a Hindi movie based on this classic by Jeffery Archer. And the best people to enact the roles of William Kane and Abel Rosnovoski would be Amitabh Bachchan and Nana Patekar. Or so me thinks.
Jeffery Archer’s Kane and Abel is a best seller and a classic at the same time. Ironical? Then, life’s abounding in ironies.
William Kane is born in the house of a famous banker. He grows up to be a banker himself, courtesy his sharp mind and his famous lineage. Abel Rosnovoski on the other hand is a Polish immigrant, who after surviving the horrors of a war-prison makes it big in America. William and Abel have many things in common.
· They were both born on the same day.
· They were young boys with an insatiable appetite for worldly knowledge.
· They both turn out to be extremely successful in their chosen careers.
· THEY BOTH HATE EACH OTHER LIKE CRAZY.
Abel assumes that Kane was responsible for the death of a very dear friend and hence hates him from the bottom of his heart. William on the other hand hates the audacity of this man who he believes is out on a personal mission against him.
And one day, their children George and Florentyna fall in love and get married. Both Abel and William are shell-shocked. How do they react to this situation? Do they reconcile with each other and sing yeh dosti hum nahin chodenge? To know more about what happens to Kane and Abel, get hold of Kate and Abel (the copy of the book dodos).
Even though the book is every inch American in spirit, one does feel that one is watching a grand Hindi movie. I repeat - the best people to enact the roles of William Kane and Abel Rosnovoski would be Amitabh Bachchan and Nana Patekar.
I loved the book and I am sure you will love it too.
