Originality:

Music has no language barriers, and this album is just another proof of that

I think this one of A.R. Rahman?s best album. I heard this album?s songs on the internet and immediately went to buy the C.D. This album has a mix of classical sounding and western sounding songs and both sets are really well pleasant to hear.

The following songs are my favourites in no particular order after the first two

The title track- Kandukonden Kandukonden

This song starts with a guitar into a nice rhythm, later withHariharan and a flute joining in. It was a really nice introduction. After that, the beautiful voice of Mahalaxmi Iyer joins us. This song is definitely one of most two favourites from the album. Hariharan and Mahalaxmi really sang very well. As usual, Hariharan sang this song with a lot of passion. The flute in the middle of the verses is very nice and so is the rhythmic tune of the guitar. The ending of this song is also good with them going after each other and the guitar finishing it. This song could be called neither Western, nor classical. Just somewhere in between, but a gem of a song.

My second favourite song- Kannamoochi

For those who didn?t like to hear Chitra yelling in the hindi song, Teri zindagi mein chali aye, this song is just such a pleasure to hear with her vocals. This song is in Rahman?s true style, not to use too many instruments, and let the singer carry the whole tune of the song. In the middle of the verses though, he uses more instruments and the veena(I think ?cause that?s what it sounded like) is played beautifully. As I said, I think this is Chitra?s best song after Kannalane a.k.a. Khena hi Kya This song is played again in a duet with Yesudas and he also sings very well with Chitra. However, I think I like the solo a LITTLE more.

The third song is a very hummable song- Smiyaiyai

This song is a very westernish sounding song. It starts with the singers singing the tune in octave higher, and the Clinton and Devan sing it in it?s normal pitch. This song is probably the most hummable song of the album. You hear it once, and next time you just want to hum along, or sing along if you can understand/sing the https://lyrics. The instruments used are really well played, and the guitar, drums are really good. Whatever, part Dominique did was O.K. and can be irritating to some people. The middle verses are sung very well also. Just before the hit the chorus, that part is really good. Throughout the song, Clinton goes sometimes in Octave higher or lower with the main tune. Overall, this song is really good.

The fourth song is a very quite, mysterious sounding song- Yenna Solla Pogirai

This song sung really well by none other than, Shankar Mahadevan and starts of with him singing with a xyolophone sounding instrument and then some other instrument which made the atmosphere so quiet and mysterious. This song is really foot-tapping at times and you feel like singing when he sings, sandanth thenralai???.mounammma Overall, this song is really good, and also one with doesn?t use too many instruments.

The next song has a sort of sad mood- Yengae Yenathu Kavithai

This song has a sort of sad mood. It is sung once again very well by Chitra as carried the whole song. She sung this song very passionately. Srinivas was good too but he didn?t have much to do. The song starts of with drums and then an instrument which plays a nice rhythm. Then Chitra starts singing which sort of makes you think that she?s sad(character in movie). The best part in this song is the chorus or the main verse. It?s composed beautifully. Srinivas starts singing in the 1st middle verse with his voice sounding very techno. The middle verses go very fast as if someone?s very angry, and then going in the chorus. I kept on listening tot his track for some reason. It?s so haunting. The track ends with singers going aaaaaaa up a scale and a bell going ding.

The good songs

Konjum Mainakkale

This song is another foot-tapping number, and sounds like a very happy-go-lucky song. This song is sung very well by Sadhna Sargam This song is like a slow, peppy number. Sadhna Sargam sings as usual really nicely. This song also sounds like a folk song for some reason. It?s anyways a very beautiful song.

Suttum Vizhi

This is one song which makes me go, ?Wish I knew Tamil.? This is because this song doesn?t use any instruments(well, hardly any) and uses sounds that sound like natural sounds. This is a solo of Harihran and he sung this song right out of his heart. This song is more like a poem sung melodiously. It?s very short but very nice.

Overall, this album is brilliant, and one of A.R. Rahman?s best. This film is directed by Rajiv Menon and stars. Ajith, Tabu, Aishwarya Rai, and Mamooothy. I?ve seen this movie, obviously with subtitles but I?ve forgotten who the songs were picturized on.

The best thing about this movie, according to me is, that you keep on changing your favourite track, I mean you just can?t make up your mind about which track you like best. But I think my most favourite tracks are, Kannamochi, Kandukonen Kandukonden, and Yengae Yenathu Kavithai.

I don?t understand Tamil, which this movie?s songs, so I can?t say anything about the https://lyrics.

An album worth your money even if you don?t understand the language.
