Is Kal Ho Na Ho album a winner? According to me- YES!
I love the title song and that’s my current favorite.
“How can one recommend the album just because 1-2 songs are nice?”
– That’s the argument.
Fair enough- but these days, hardly an album exists where ALL the songs are equally great, and Kal Ho Na Ho is worth recommending for the few good tracks.
There are just 6 songs and one instrumental. Title song has two versions.

------------
1)Kal Ho Na Ho- (Sad)
The best song of the album (and probably of the year 2003!).
It starts with a good chorus, then Alka Yagnik renders “ab duriyan itni hain to”, followed by the recitation “Manglam Bhagwan Vishnu”, and finally Sonu Nigam takes the song to new height with “us baat ko jaane hi do.”
A sad yet beautiful song that one can listen to again and again. (5/5)
2)Kal Ho Na Ho- (Happy)
It is the solo version of title song sung superbly by Sonu Nigam. It is simply amazing. Lyrics are beautiful. The music is just too good. This song is here to stay! (5/5)
3)Mahive- A catchy, fast song with strong Punjabi influence.
This energetic dance number is very likable. Though I tend to prefer soft melodious tracks, I like to listen to ‘mahive’- it is almost flawless! (5/5)
4)Kuch to hua hain- A cute, peppy love song!
Shaan and Alka Yagnik excel here. The song is very sweet yet fast-paced – a rare combination. This song and ‘maahive’ are very perfect to play in the car. (5/5)
5)It’s the time to disco.
It could have been better; they shouldn’t have used English https://lyrics. Anyways, it is a fast dance- track (very obvious from the lyrics).
I found it very noisy and annoying initially, but now I can tolerate it, so it is not that bad. (3/5)
6)Pretty Woman
Original is always better than a cheap copy. So, this song is a Hindi/Punjabi version of the hit English song ‘pretty woman’. I like the original song, and find this new version very, very pathetic. This is the dumbest song from this album. (1/5)
7)Heartbeat (Instrumental)
It is the instrumental version of title song. Nothing special or great about it! It is a rather gloomy tune and it is a bit lengthy (more than 4 minutes). (2/5)

So, I like this album for the first 4 songs. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy team has done a fine job, except ‘pretty woman’. I don’t know if the other songs were also stolen from somewhere!
Anyways- so far, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ means excellent music.
